Among his topics are migration to British Malaya and early life in the state of Pahang (1947-50), post-graduate research at the Australian National University (1965-68), chair of history and head of the History Department of the University of Hong Kong (1988-90), involvement in the Chinese Association of South Australia (1981-2016), and conversion to Christianity.
