For him, power is not a problem: a simple and functional LANBERG POE+ switch The PoE+ switch is an indispensable active device in any network structure that uses power transmission over structured cabling. The RSGE-24P-2GE-2S-250 is dedicated to all installations: home, business, low-current, monitoring, IP, VoIP, cable TV networks, and in particular finds use in alarm, fire and access control infrastructures. In addition to the primary function of the switch, i.e. handling Ethernet frame traffic between ports, it additionally provides power to each device in the PoE/PoE+ 802.3af and at standards. This makes it possible to supply up to 250 W total power to devices. And all this together with simultaneous data transmission to them. This saves resources, space and the time it would take to install a separate electrical and network installation. This is particularly important if the network is dispersed and its end devices do not have access to a power source, even more so if they are mounted outdoors. No-compromise solution - viable POE budget: 250 W The switch is equipped with a total of 28 ports, including 24 PoE+ (Gigabit Ethernet), 2 Uplink (Gigabit Ethernet) and 2 Uplink (SFP Gigabit) ports. Thoughtful design and attention to component quality provides the user with up to 250 W of total real power for end devices, which means that up to: 16 IEEE 802.3af devices (max. 15 W per port) or, 8 IEEE 802.3at devices (max. 30 W per port), The remaining 4 Uplink ports (2xGigabit Ethernet and 2xSFP Gigabit) operate independently and can operate simultaneously. They are dedicated to the exchange of data traffic between the 24 PoE+ ports and external devices. In the case of monitoring/control systems, this is particularly useful, as it allows the user to rip camera recordings to the DVR while simultaneously sharing the stream further (on the second port), e.g. on the local network or on the Internet. Intelligent POE port disconnection function It is not always entirely clear how a switch will behave when the available PoE budget is exceeded. There are several possibilities: the port that exceeds the budget will be disconnected, or a random port or the most recently connected port will be disconnected. In the last case, what will be their order after a power outage and its restoration when they are all plugged into the switch at the same time? Lanberg has introduced an innovative solution in the RS series switches which, through the simplicity of the operating principle, eliminates any doubt about the mechanics of the ports. When the PoE budget is exceeded (e.g. by a device connected to port 1), the switch will start disconnecting PoE ports starting from the highest numbering until the sum of loads exceeds the available budget; while keeping the operation of the other ports intact. Those that are disconnected will remain in this state until the PoE load decreases. The function is primarily dedicated to demanding applications that emphasize safety and business continuity, where some devices must operate without interruption regardless of the situation. In such cases, Lanberg switches will allow the user to protect sensitive devices by connecting them to the lowest numbered ports. EXTEND mode up to 250 meters Standard switches, in accordance with the standard, provide the ability to operate devices at a distance of up to 100 m on one cable section. However, sometimes, due to the extensive backbone and complex environment, a custom solution that goes beyond the standard is required when developing cabling and networking. In the case of monitoring solutions, this is a fairly common problem, most often resulting from too great a distance between the distribution device and the end device. Lanberg switches have a function that enables data transmission (max. 10 Mbps) and PoE+ power supply up to 250 m on one cable section. Simply switch the button to the PoE+ Extend 250m position on the case to provide extended operation for ports 1 ~ 24. The solution has been introduced for monitoring and IP systems as well as access control, especially if end devices are located outside without the possibility of installing additional network distribution points. 4 kV surge protection The switch itself, as well as the devices connected to it, are repeatedly exposed to various threats, including electric discharges that can flow through both power and network cables. Bearing in mind the safety of devices and their users, Lanberg equipped the switch with an integrated protection system against discharges, guaranteeing 4 kV protection for all ports, effectively reducing their damage due to rapid voltage increase. Under standard conditions, the network will continue to work without interruptions, the switch will continue to work without any interruptions, and the user gains the security of the device and infrastructure. GESP+PoE is a passive PoE injector with surge protection. Combine it with the GESP devices for maximum security and peace of mind.Here’s what a typical use-case would be like. You have a mast with some antennas. And some switches on the ground. Put the GESP surge protector up there. It comes sealed inside a new and improved IP67 weatherproof enclosure. Your antennas are now safe during a lightning storm. Now add the GESP+POE-IN injector below the mast - to protect the switches and to power the antennas.Don’t forget about the grounding wire! Secure it to the rackmount mast or any other structure that is connected to the ground. For maximum protection you should use a surge protector on both ends of long cables.The GESP units can usually absorb multiple impacts but make sure to check their condition after each surge. For attachment of GESP units it's recommended using PVC zip ties. Just don’t make it too tight. You know what they say – hope for the best prepare for the worst.
