See on üks väheseid filtreid, mille poolt loodavat tulemust pildil ei ole võimalik digitaalses pilditöötluses järele aimata. Mis teeb selle filtri nii eriliseks? Esimeseks hakkab silma, et filter on halli värvi. Siit ka teadmiseks, et filter võtab 1,5 kuni 2 astet valgust maha. Enamasti kasutatakse seda filtrit välitingimustes. Filtri loodava efekti nägemiseks tuleb filtrit objektiivi ees pöörata. Nüüd võib märgata, et taevas muutub kontrastsemaks, pilved tulevad paremini esile. Värvid muutuvad kirkamaks, kaovad peegeldused veepinnalt ja klaasidelt. Looduses pildistades ning eelkõige maastikupiltde juures on polarisatsioonifilter väga sageli kasutust leidev lisa. Efekti mõju ulatus sõltub valguse langemise suunast, see ei toimi igas suunas võrdselt. Samuti ei toimi filter võrdselt kõigilt pindadelt. Näiteks poleeritud metallpinnad toimivad juhul kui need on üle lakitud või kergelt oksüdeerunud. Polarisatsioonifiltrit ei soovita keerata juba kaamera ees oleva UV filtri külge, vaid kasutage ühte filtrit korraga!
