The ultra-wide angle lens is made of high-quality optical glass components that are arranged in 4 groups and thus enable a razor-sharp image across the entire lens width. All optical elements are multi-coated to prevent internal glare and maximize light transmission. When used with the Micro 3.0, the lens has an effective focal length of 13.3 mm, and is waterproof up to 60 m. The graduated ND10 balances exposure between the lightest and darkest areas of a scene allowing better tone and detail to be recorded in these areas of the image. HOYA Variable Density II is a density adjustable filter with an ND range from 1.5 to 9 f-stops (ND3-400). The difference with the previous HOYA Variable Density filter is the newly designed rotatable frame with convenient knob, allowing for better operation.Variable density filters are widely used because they can replace a set of solid ND filters by providing a range density that can be adjusted according to the desired exposure settings. In still shooting, variable density filters lower the shutter speed according to the photographer’s intentions when the shutter speed cannot be lowed due to camera limits. Variable density filters can also increase the amount of boke when shooting in the over-lit conditions, thus, preventing the image from overexposure.In video shooting, it is fundamental to keep the shutter speed fitting the frame rate setting. That is, to keep it equal to double the frame rate for optimal results. Other forms of light sources, e.g., cylinder shaped light like from fluorescent lamps, will not produce an effect. There are also cases in which large light sources prevent the cross effect from appearing clearly. In these situations, try to move further away from the interfering light source and try shooting again. The strength of the light source, the focal distance and the aperture value have an impact on the cross effect. If your image is too dark when shooting illuminations, try increasing the exposure compensation. On the other hand, should the image be too bright, try with a reduced exposure compensation. Cross streaks can be seen better in dark background settings. Also, focusing on the light source makes for a crisper cross effect. Depending on the conditions, a mesh shaped flare will occur (strong light sources and back lighting conditions). Increasing the focal length towards the telephoto end will strengthen the soft effect. Light rays might distort at wide angles. When the aperture is reduced to around f/22, light rays may become dotted. Under circumstances, the HOYA SPARKLE produces a meshed pattern over the blurred parts in your image.
