The narrowband UHC filter, like the O-III filter, isolates the two doubly ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm) in addition to the hydrogen-beta line (486nm) emitted by planetary and most emission nebulae. This filter permits superb views of objects like the Orion, Lagoon, Swan and other extended nebulae. It performs well in smaller aperture instruments owing to its greater light transmission than the O-III, yet still suppresses light pollution well. One of the most important obstacles for the exploration of the night sky is the brightening of the night sky by artificial lights, such as streetlights. The night sky is not really dark in the vicinity of towns or cities, which reduces the visibility of objects bejond the solar systems enourmously. Depending on the type of the celestial object it is possible to increase the contrast dramatically by blocking the annoying artifical light. The EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC UHC filter uses a characteristic property of the so called emmission nebulae. Those objects glow in special colors, the so called emmission lines. Those emmission lines are linked to chemical elements - in this case hydrogen at 486nm and 656nm, plus oxygen at 496nm and 501nm. The EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC UHC nebula filter blocks all other colors (and thereby nearly all of the artificial light) and only the emmission line of the hydrogen and oxygen can pass the filter. The result is astonishing: suddenly nebulae are visible at locations that were completely empty without filters. In suburbian skies for example the Owl-nebula M97, the Veil-nebula Ngc 6992 or even the bright Dumbell-nebula M27are not clearly visible. By using this filter you can see the nebulae and their structures without problems. A must for every visual observer. You can use this to your advantage by using a 2“ Barlow lens and discovering all the additional advantages this can offer. The Omegon 2” Barlow lens provides a good image with high contrast. The use of ED glass means that visible colour aberrations are reduced to a minimum with the image appearing substantially sharper. This often means there is no choice but to wrap up warmly. This Barlow lens has been designed with a high grip exterior to provide a good grip, meaning that it is easy to handle securely even with gloves on. Still more possibilities One does not always need the focal length to be doubled. It is also possible to use just one section of this Barlow lens in order to get a magnification factor of something like 1.5x. The lower Barlow element can simply be unscrewed and then screwed into any 2” eyepiece. This Barlow element is correctly threaded for this purpose.
