TAMBOUR EMBROIDERY FOR BEGINNERS 2024A Complete Step by Step Guide to Master The Art of Tambour Embroidery to Create Attractive And Nice Looking DesignsThe name "tambour" comes from the French word for "drum." Tambour embroidery is a traditional technique that uses a specially designed tool called a tambour hook. This tool may be used to quickly produce a basic chain stitch and is quite flexible in how it can be embellished with beads, sequins, feathers, and other materials. The technique is named for the tautness of the fabric when it is stretched in the frame, which is necessary for the hook to pass through the fabric cleanly without catching the weave. When the tension is correct, the stitch should also produce a satisfying thrum noise. Although its origins are unclear, it is believed to have originated in India under the name aari embroidery. During the 18th century, it was transported to France and Britain, where it evolved into what is now known as tambour. It originated in the 17th century. This book contains all you need for your tambour embroidery with step by step guide and pictures for better understanding. This Book contains the following and many more: The development and history of tambour embroidery Tambour beading: initial trial Tambour embroidery What is required for tambour embroidery? Renowned expert Stephen Turnbull examines the castles built in Japan, from the first primitive fortifications in the Yayoi Period (300 BC-AD 250) through to the first proper castles which began to be developed with the rise to power of the Yamato Court, the first emperors of Japan in around AD 250. Examining the close ties that early Japanese dynasties had to both China and Korea, Turnbull assesses how Japanese defensive architecture betrays these influences. Also examined is the effect that the terrain in Japan had on fortifications - from the early reliance on earthworks and palisades and the development of wooden and earth castles, often sited on the top of the mountains, into more elaborate stone constructions in the 15th century. Finally, the emergence of the stone towers that are so characteristic of samurai is investigated, as is the gradual adaptation of Japanese castles to accommodate the introduction of firearms. With previously unpublished photographs from the author's private collection and full-color artwork, including detailed cutaways, this is an essential guide to the fascinating development of Japanese castles.

Juin 1940.

When two or more pieces of glass are heated in a kiln, the result is a single piece of fused glass.Glass fusing is an art form.Plates, tiles, bowls, jewelry, wall hangings, and other artistic creations are all made from fused glass. To make a finished piece of fused glass, all you need is a kiln and a few basic tools. Bulk production of vessels and other objects that are difficult or impossible to fabricate in a kiln uses glass blowing. Using a large furnace to melt the glass and a variety of other tools is necessary for glass blowing. Glass is cast in a mold, kiln-fired, and then coldworked with grinding and polishing equipment to create a three-dimensional sculpture. A torch is used in glass flameworking to create a finished object, but the process can only handle smaller items.

In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, after the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and at the height of the "War on Terror", the controversial postmodernist thinker Jean Baudrillard wrote The Intelligence of Evil. In tackling the rhetoric of the so-called "clash of civilizations" between a capitalist West and a fundamentalist religious Islam, the book also provides a summation of many of the most important themes of Baurdrillard's philosophical project. Baudrillard here explores how neoliberal political rhetoric has divided human cultures are divided into two antagonistic forces, one based on symbolic exchange, which is dual and reciprocal, and one based on money and sign exchange, which is totalising. Non-western societies can create genuinely symbolic, durable cultures. But the western world-system, based on a logic of empire, is designed to create an integrated and sealed reality, to snap tight around the world and its image. If the first is indestructible and the second is irresistible, who can win and what will victory look like?

THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERFrom generational icon Brooke Shields comes an intimate and empowering exploration of ageing that flips the script on the idea of what it means for a woman to grow older Brooke Shields has spent a lifetime in the public eye. Growing up as a child actor and model, her every feature was scrutinised, her every decision judged. Today Brooke faces a different kind of scrutiny: that of being a 'woman of a certain age'.And yet, for Brooke, the passage of time has brought freedom. At fifty-nine, she feels more comfortable in her skin, more empowered and confident than she did decades ago in those famous Calvin Kleins. Now, in Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old, she's changing the narrative about women and ageing. This is an era, insists Brooke, when women are reclaiming agency and power, not receding into the shadows. These are the years when we get to decide how we want to live - when we get to write our own stories. With remarkable candour, Brooke bares all, painting a vibrant and optimistic picture of being a woman in the prime of her life, while dismantling the myths that have, for too long, dimmed that perception.Sharing her own life experiences with humour and humility, and weaving together research and reporting, Brooke takes aim at the systemic factors that contribute to age-related bias. By turns inspiring, moving, and galvanising, Brooke's honesty and vulnerability will resonate with women everywhere, and spark a new conversation about the power and promise of midlife.
