In this expansion comprised of a series of scenarios called "riddles", players will seek to complete tactical objectives to solve the riddles. However, if players exhaust their supply of Santorini tower pieces before an objective is completed, the riddle remains unsolved and must be played again. Each successfully solved riddle allows players to progress on the adventure map and unlock new gods to add into future riddles. The capitalistic city-state known simply as 'The Factory', which fuelled the war with heavily armoured mechs, has closed its doors, drawing the attention of several nearby countries.. Scythe is an engine-building game set in an alternate-history 1920s period. It is a time of farming and war, broken hearts and rusted gears, innovation and valour. In Scythe, each player represents a fallen leader attempting to restore their honor and lead their faction to power in Eastern Europa. Players conquer territory, enlist new recruits, reap resources, gain villagers, build structures, and activate powerful mechs. Scythe uses a streamlined action-selection mechanism (no rounds or phases) to keep gameplay moving at a brisk pace and reduce downtime between turns. While there is plenty of direct conflict, there is no player elimination, nor can units be killed or destroyed. Build and Customise Every part of Scythe has an aspect of engine-building to it. Players can upgrade actions to become more efficient, build structures that improve their position on the map, enlist new recruits to enhance character abilities, activate Mechs to deter opponents from invading, and expand their borders to reap greater types and quantities of resources. These engine-building aspects create a sense of momentum and progress throughout the game. The order in which players improve their engine adds to the unique feel of each game, even when playing one faction multiple times. Starting positions are specially calibrated to contribute to each faction’s uniqueness and the asymmetrical nature of the game.

Scythe Encounters is a boxed set of 32 new promo encounter cards designed by fans of Scythe and developed into the final cards by Jamey Stegmaier. It is recommend to play with this deck of cards by itself a few times to experience the new options before shuffling them into the original encounter deck.

These realistic resource tokens replace the wooden tokens in the retail, special edition, and premium versions of Scythe. They include 80 tokens (20 each) for oil, wood, metal, and food, and they're made out of resin and metal (depending on the token).

Addon to Scythe.The board extension slides next to the back side of the standard game board, creating a complete board with 70% bigger hexes (the content is the same). All units and resources in Scythe are kept on the board, so the larger hexes provide more space. The standard game board is 624x818mm, and it grows to 818x939mm with this extension.

While empires rise and fall in Eastern Europa, the rest of the world takes notice. Two distant factions, Albion and Togawa, send emissaries to scout the land and employ their own distinct styles of conquering. Invaders from Afar works seamlessly with any version of Scythe (i.e., if you have special resource tokens, that’s fine–the expansion doesn’t have any resource tokens). Originally the game was to be capped at 5 players, but I wanted to include 2 new player mats in the expansion. I realized that some people were going to use the mats to play 6-7 player games no matter the what the box says, so I needed to make sure the game worked for them! To scale up, the expansion includes alternate abilities for some of the original factions.

The Scythe Modular Board adds a new level of variability to Scythe, with the map (double-sided board and 4 big double-sided tiles) and the faction locations (home base tiles) changing every time you play. The modular board adds a drafting element to setup, along with a variant for a tighter map at low player counts. This is a completely new board designed specifically for the tiles (which are designed specifically for the new board). Both the board and the tiles are double-sided to maximize variability. When you play Scythe with the modular board, you will not play with any other version of the Scythe board.
