Casemate Publishers Celtic from the West 3: Atlantic Europe in the Metal Ages questions of shared language GTIN: 9798888571538 Raamatud The third volume in the influential Celtic from the West series questions the accepted status quo on the development and spread of Celtic languages across late Iron Age Europe. The Celtic languages and groups called Keltoi (i.e. Celts) emerge into our written records at the pre-Roman Iron Age. The impetus for this book is to explore from the perspectives of three disciplinesarchaeology, genetics, and linguisticsthe background in later European prehistory to these developments. There is a traditional scenario, according to which, Celtic speech and the associated group identity came in to being during the Early Iron Age in the north Alpine zone and then rapidly spread across central and western Europe. This idea of Celtogenesis remains deeply entrenched in scholarly and popular thought. But it has become increasingly difficult to reconcile with recent discoveries pointing towards origins in the deeper past. It should no longer be taken for granted that Atlantic Europe during the 2nd and 3rd millennia BC were pre-Celtic or even pre-Indo-European. The explorations in Celtic from the West 3 are drawn together in this spirit, continuing two earlier volumes in the influential series. Casemate Publishers Mammals of Ancient Egypt GTIN: 9798888570777 Raamatud Facsimile reissue of profusely illustrated catalogue of c. 100 species of mammal in ancient Egypt as depicted in tomb paintings, inscriptions, carvings, figurines, and as mummies. Various attempts have been made to systematize the mammals depicted in Egyptian tomb paintings, inscriptions, carvings, figurines and other objects, and as mummies, but there are many discrepancies, variable spellings and names, including now obsolete Latin names, and mis-identifications. The Egyptian artists themselves sometimes used the wrong hieroglyph or drew some parts of animals incorrectly. Dale Osborns comprehensive reassessment, presented here in a facsimile reissue, catalogues around 100 separate species, ranging from hedgehogs to hippopotami, Anubis Baboons to Zebu cattle, that can be identified in Egyptian art from prehistoric, through Pre-Dynastic to Late Kingdom times. Profusely illustrated, the catalogue is arranged by Order, then species, each entry providing the relevant hieroglyph, a brief description of the animal, its natural habitat and distribution, and a narrative on its depiction in Egyptian art through time, by location, types of illustration or object, and context (tomb etc). Known errors and discrepancies, either in original scripts or classical and/or modern literature, are listed.Mammals are abundantly depicted in tomb paintings and inscriptions. Common scenes include hunts, processions, wild animals being led on chains, domesticated animals in household and working environments, and satirical scenes. Such scenes provide many insights into the lives of Egyptians and their relationships with animals, that are further enhanced by many decorative figurines and statues and, often poignantly, by the mummies of mostly small animals including cats and dogs. Casemate Publishers Gizeh and Rifeh GTIN: 9798888570814 Raamatud Facsimile reissue of Flinders Petries account of the excavation of Egyptian tomb cemeteries at Gizeh and Dier Rifeh and the ruins of two Coptic monasteries. Facsimile reissue of Flinders Petries 1907 account of excavations at Gizeh and at Dier Rifeh in Upper Egypt, just south of Asyut. At Gizeh excavations focused on a cemetery lying on a ridge about 1 km south of the Great Pyramid while work at Rifeh extended from a well-known Coptic village for about 5 km southwards to beyond the village of Zowyeh, and mostly investigated several cemeteries in the plain of mostly XIthXVIIth Dynasty date. The area contained numerous Coptic settlements and the ruins of Coptic monasteries at Balyzeh and Ganadleh were excavated, producing many fragments of Coptic manuscripts. A chronologically ordered account of the tombs excavated begins with those at Gizeh followed by Zaraby and Zowheh and then Rifeh. Those at Rifeh produced around 150, previously rarely encountered, soul houses, being clay models of contemporary dwellings used as offering trays, which are discussed in detail. A classification of pottery is provided. Later burials were also excavated at the cemeteries close to Gizeh where three Demotic inscriptions and several cartonnages of papyri were recovered. The Demotic inscriptions and Coptic manuscripts are described with translations. Autorid: W M Flinders Petrie, Herbert Thompson, WE Crum | 0 | Vaata
Casemate Publishers Tomb of the Vizier R-wer at Saqqara GTIN: 9798888570890 Raamatud Provides a detailed description and interpretation of a lesser-known tomb forming part of the major pyramid and temple complex of Teti at Thebes. The tomb of Re-wer lies in the south-eastern corner of the mortuary temple of King Teti, first King of the 6th Dynasty, beside the pyramid of Teti, in the Old Kingdom necropolis at Saqqara. Excavations in 19067 and in the early 1920s were not published and the tomb was re-excavated and partly restored in 19757. It comprised a paved courtyard within a temenos containing the rectangular chapel tomb, with surviving structure built of fine quality limestone blocks in inner and outer walls. It is unusual in having two false doors in the west wall. The roof was missing. Nothing was recovered from a burial shaft that lies close to the tomb. The walls and false doors are adorned with inscriptions and reliefs. This facsimile reissue of Amer el-Fikey detailed description of the surviving structure, decoration and transcription of the inscriptions is accompanied by a full set of photographs and illustrations. No biographical text survived and the author considers the possible date of the tomb in relation to the adjacent architecture and the style of the reliefs, concluding that it most likely dates to the reign of Pepi I. He discusses indications for the personality, family situation and official position of Re-wer, which may suggest that he was father to a wife of King Pepi and that both were disgraced for some reason. Facsimile reissue detailed and fully illustrated description of the surviving structure, decoration and inscriptions of the tomb of the Vizier Re-wer at Saqqara. Casemate Publishers Ecologies of Bronze Age Rock Art: Organisation, Design and Articulation of Petroglyphs in Eastern-central Sweden GTIN: 9798888571392 Raamatud The Bronze Age (1700500 BCE) petroglyphs of southern Scandinavia comprise a unique tradition of rock art in northern Eurasia. Despite a limited repertoire of motifs such as cupmarks, boats, anthropomorphs, zoomorphs, podomorphs and circles, it shows great variability in design, elaboration and articulation. This book is a study of the Mälaren region in southern-central Sweden that includes one of the most prominent rock art clusters of southwest Uppland as well as the hinterland of Södermanland county. The rock art in this region is studied on three scales: regional, local and particular. This allows for comparisons between dense and small sites, an exploration of how the Bronze Age rock art tradition developed over time in the area, and equally how the design and articulation of certain motifs relate to contemporary settlements, waterways and varying environmental settings. Patterns and structures in the distribution and articulation of the petroglyphs show that the different motifs are not only visual expressions but very much material enactments. The motifs often physically relate to each other, the flows of water, and the microtopography and mineral contents of the rocks. The study is therefore not as much about rock art as images and symbols as it is about the ecology of rock art the web of social and physical relations in which it was enacted and employed. From this perspective, the petroglyphs are seen as petrofacts, that is something akin to tools or devices articulated in various ways to affect humans, other-than-humans and the animacies of the coastal milieus where they were made. Casemate Publishers Forsaken Relics: Practices and Rituals of Appropriating Abandoned Artifacts from Antiquity to Modern Times GTIN: 9798888571149 Raamatud Uses case studies to examine the intricate mechanisms of ritualistic appropriation of ruined and/or abandoned assets and artifacts in the ancient and medieval worlds. Uses case studies to examine the social context and cultural and political management of appropriating abandoned objects and assets.Forsaken Relics examines the intricate mechanisms of ritualistic appropriation of ruined and/or abandoned assets and artifacts. It explores how this process occurs in situations where there is legislation to regulate the appropriation of ownerless property, as well as in cases where such rules are either absent or contested, leading to disputes and conflicts. Every society has developed its unique ways of managing the re-appropriation of ownerless things, such as places and houses abandoned after conflicts, crises, or natural disasters, forsaken cemeteries, tombs, and forgotten goods. These practices often involve the use of ritualistic methods to mask the intent to appropriate abandoned artifacts. The book aims to stimulate comparative analysis of this topic in both ancient and modern societies, profiling the identity of the actors of appropriation, examining the definition of abandonment, and exploring the ritual aspects such as inventorying material, dedication to ancestors, and prayers to gods that legitimize the re-appropriation of places and goods classified as abandoned. Casemate Publishers Tomb of Amenemhab: No. 44 at Qurnah GTIN: 9798888570852 Raamatud Facsimile reissue of 1999 description of the wall paintings and inscriptions within the tomb of Amenemhab, priest of Amon in the Qurnah cemetery at Thebes. This volume is a facsimile reissue of the full publication of the tomb identified as that of Amenemhab, a middle ranking priest of Amon. The tomb lies within the lower enclosure of the major cemetery of Elwet Sheikh-Abdel Qurnah in Thebes. It is cut into a perpendicular cliff of limestone and shale and is one of the private, so-called house-like chapel tombs of local dignitaries, mainly dating to the Ramesside Period. The plan is a common form for Theban tombs, comprising a short entranceway leading into a broad hall, an axial passage and a long hall or shrine with a niche and it is oriented northeast to southwest with a maximum length of c. 9.3 m. There are no side chambers or columns. The tomb decoration was first recorded by Sir Robert Mond but not published by him. Although richly furnished with brightly colored paintings and texts much of the decoration was badly degraded and damaged. The burial shaft was not discovered. In this volume, presented here in facsimile, Hassan el-Saady provides a summary description of the tomb itself with a panel by panel description of the inscriptions and paintings, accompanied by photographs and explanatory line drawings. He identifies the owner of the tomb and members of his family and though close dating of the tomb is difficult as no ruling pharaoh is alluded to anywhere within it, close scrutiny of the style, content and arrangement of both the actual tomb and the decoration points to the reign of Ramesses II. Casemate Publishers Monumental Times: Pasts, Presents, and Futures in the Prehistoric Construction Projects of Northern and Western Europe GTIN: 9798888570388 Raamatud Examines origins, uses and subsequent histories of early monuments; their distinctive time scales; changing concepts of time (both past and future), histories and remembering the past. This book is concerned with the origins, uses and subsequent histories of monuments. It emphasises the time scales illustrated by these structures, and their implications for archaeological research. It is concerned with the archaeology of Western and Northern Europe, with an emphasis on structures in Britain and Ireland, and the period between the Mesolithic and the Viking Age.It begins with two famous groups of monuments and introduces the problem of multiple time scales. It also considers how they influence the display of those sites today they belong to both the present and the past. Monuments played a role from the moment they were created, but approaches to their archaeology led in opposite directions. They might have been directed to a future that their builders could not control. These structures could be adapted, destroyed, or left to decay once their significance was lost. Another perspective was to claim them as relics of a forgotten past. In that case they had to be reinterpreted. The first part of this book considers the rarity of monumental structures among hunter-gatherers, and the choice of building materials for Neolithic houses and tombs. It emphasises the difference between structures whose erection ended the use of significant places, and those whose histories could extend into the future. It also discusses megalithic astronomy and ancient notions of time. Part Two is concerned with the reuse of ancient monuments and asks whether they really were expressions of social memory. Did links with an ancestral past have much factual basis? It contrasts developments during the Beaker phase with those of the early medieval period. The development of monumental architecture is compared with the composition of oral literature. Autorid: Richard Bradley | 0 | Vaata

Greenleaf Book Group LLC Your Time to Rise: Unlearn Limiting Beliefs, Unlock Your Power, and Unleash Your Truest Self GTIN: 9798886452655 Raamatud This empowering book is for women at professional and personal crossroads who are ready to break free from expectations and make powerful change. Growing up as a first-generation Latina and navigating fast-paced law firm and corporate work environments, Arivee Vargas is well-versed in how heavily cultural and societal expectations can weigh on women of color trying to traverse life, work, and, for some, motherhood. Arivee wrote this book primarily for women of color who are ready to embark on the path of change, get honest with themselves, and decide how they want to live and work. Greenleaf Book Group LLC Universe Is Hiring: Discover the Role You Were Born to Fill GTIN: 9798886452594 Raamatud Find Fulfillment through Living Your Purpose - Do you want to be more fulfilled? - Do you long to find your purpose? - Do you want to find a job that will be both abundant and deeply satisfying? - Do you feel like something is missing in your life and no matter what you do, it never seems to fill the hole inside? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, this book is for you. In the The Universe Is Hiring, Anniston Riekstinsdoesn't just offer advice but also a roadmap to finding purpose and fulfillment. Drawing from her experience as a high-performance coach and co-founder of Inpower University, Riekstins offers stories from her own life and those of her clients to help readers see that they're not alone in their struggles and that transformation is possible. Many of us have inherited a collective belief system that includes the following-- - Life isn't meant to be easy. - Life isn't meant to be fun. - If an action isn't tied to a financial goal, it's a hobby and isn't as important. - Stop dreaming, get your head out of the clouds, and return to reality. - If you do what you love, you won't have enough money to survive. - Keep your head down, do the work, and you'll be fine. These beliefs worked for centuries to ensure an individual's security, protection, and survival. But what this collective belief system doesn't support is how to thrive. We were never taught in school how to be successful and fulfilled. We aren't given instructions on how to reach our dreams and feel satisfied, content, and enthusiastic every step of the way. And we're unclear how to experience true prosperity--which is the joy of doing what you were born to do while serving others and manifesting abundance at the same time. The Universe is Hiring is a call to step forward into living and expressing your unique purpose. It's a love note from the Universe reminding you that you are a one-of-a-kind, limited edition, never-to-be-replicated human being, and you came here to do something big. It's a wake-up call to get you out of sleepwalking through your life so you can remember and start living your heroic mission. It's a guide, pointing you down the path that will lead to everything you seek--abundance, fulfillment, joy, passion, and love. You'll learn practical strategies to overcome challenges--such as fear, limiting mindsets, imposter syndrome, and comparison--in order to step into your authentic selves and the roles you are destined for. While terms like destiny, manifestation, and inspiration can seem hard to pin down, Riekstins makes the abstract approachable through candid explanations and guided exercises, giving readers a practical toolkit for intentionally creating the life they desire. Anniston is a sought-after speaker who regularly hosts workshops and trainings for businesses and is co-host on the InPowered Life Podcast. Autorid: Anniston Blair Riekstins | 0 | Vaata

PM Press Fag Hag GTIN: 9798887440101 Raamatud "Some girls fancy sailors, others fancy soldiers. But you, my dear, are a fag hag!"Lola Miesseroff's childhood certainly predisposed her to be a rebel. She was born in Marseilles in 1947 to immigrant parents, her mother a Russian-Jewish social worker, her father an Armenian-Russian with a sandpaper-making workshop in sheds left behind by the Americans. The family ran and lived in a nudist colony, a place where the men were allowed to be feminine, the women masculine. Hers was what she calls a "degendered" childhood: "I never suffered from identity problems. There were two genocides in my background, one Jewish, the other Armenian, and my education was Russophone, naturist and libertarian, not least with respect to love and sex. In other words, we were marginal in every possible way."Lolas picaresque memoir Fag Hag tracks her peregrinations through what she calls the "Outer Left"always deeply committed and involved in women's liberation, sexual liberation, gay, and LBGTQ liberationyet always on the fringe of formal organizations (or driven there) because of her belief that anarcho-communist revolution (not her term) trumps all (inter)sectional struggles without reducing them. From Marseilles to Avignon and Paris, Lola's trajectory epitomizes a far left that opposed a spirit of provocation and raillery to the austerity of many militant groupuscules and experimented enthusiastically with communal and polysexual living."I have dredged my memory," Lola writes, "in the hope that revisiting the past might help illuminate our present; if it doesn't, I shall have failed. I want to contribute in some small measure to the struggles of today by exposing the strengths and weaknesses of the struggles of the past, and to contest fragmented identity politics in favor of all-for-one-and-one-for-all. Which is my way of continuing to challenge the power structure." Autorid: Lola Miesseroff, Donald Nicholson-Smith, Helene Hazera | 0 | Vaata
PM Press Orstralia: A Punk History 1974-1989 GTIN: 9798887440392 Raamatud With appeal to more than just punk history obsessives, Orstralia offers an unprecedented snapshot of an underacknowledged segment of Australian life and history.Far from punks more modish North Atlantic core in the late 1970s, discontented youth in Australia were enacting similar musical and cultural reckonings. Yet in spite of the Australia's purported laid-back national demeanour, punks there were routinely met with insult, fist, or the police baton.More subterranean than the national scandal that was punk back in homeland Britain, Australias own bands nonetheless came to be heralded internationally. Orstralia represents the first definitive account of the countrys initial years, from progenitors the Saints and Radio Birdman in the mid-70s, through the emergence of hardcore in the 1980s, to the stylistic diffusion that accompanied transition to the 1990s.Based on over 130 interviews, Orstralia documents the most renowned to the most fleeting and obscure acts the nation produced. Included are equally engrossing and shocking personal narratives befitting such a passionate and intemperate cultural form, as well as punks placement within broader Australian society at the time. PM Press Black Coal and Red Bandanas: An Illustrated History of the West Virginia Mine Wars GTIN: 9798887440590 Raamatud In the early-20th century, strikes and union battles were common in industrial centers throughout the US. But nothing compared to the class warfare of the West Virginia Mine Wars. The origins of this protracted rebellion were in the dictatorial rule of the coal companies over the proud, multi-racial, immigrant and native-born miners of Appalachia. Our illustrated history begins with Mary Harris Mother Jones's arrival at the turn of the century. White-haired, matronly, and fiercely socialist, Jones became known as the miners angel, and helped turn the fledgling United Mine Workers into the nations most powerful labor union. Pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living, was her famous battle cry. In 1912, miners led by stubborn Frank Keeney struck against harsh conditions in the work camps of Paint and Cabin Creeks. Coal operators responded by enlisting violent Baldwin-Felts guards. The ensuing battles and murderous events caused the governor to declare and execute martial law on a scale unprecedented in the US. On May 19, 1920, in response to evictions by coal company agents, gunshots rang through the streets of a small-town in Bloody Mingo county. In an event soon known as the Matewan Massacre; the pro-union, quick-draw chief of police Smilin Sid Hatfield became an unexpected celebritybut also a marked man. Events climax with the dramatic Battle of Blair Mountain that pitched the spontaneous Red Neck Army of 10,000 armed strikers against a paid army of gun thugs in the largest labor uprising in US history and the largest armed uprising since the American Civil War.This graphic interpretation of peoples history features unforgettable main characters while also displaying the diverse rank and file workers who stood in solidarity during this struggle.
