Between documentation and fiction—the realities of four world-famous photographers. Recognizing strangeness in familiar objects, the present in the past, the artificial in the authentic–the four masterly photographers in this collection offer glimpses of a world that blurs the boundary between reality and imagination. Showcasing the work of Thomas Demand, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Andreas Gursky, and Jeff Wall, this book presents four photographers whose images skillfully interrogate the possibilities and limitations of their medium. Working with both analog and digital technologies, each photographer not only formulates a wholly distinct way of seeing reality but also analyzes human perception itself, inviting viewers to individually interpret their works. Their subjects range from fleeting everyday scenes to mysterious events and re-enacted historical happenings. What these images all share is the artists’ intent to meld the documentary—traditionally seen as photography’s cardinal virtue—with the fictional. This exclusive volume presents the works of the stars of the contemporary international photography scene. Autorid: Draiflessen Collection, J. Franck, J. Lüscher, O. Nein, C. Otto, G. Pavlopoulos, A. Dario Fo (19262016), actor, playwright, theatre director, stage designer, political activist, artist and author who, having attained international fame in theatre, produced the first of his six novels at the age of 88 was there any limit to his versatile genius? He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1997, and works such as Accidental Death of an Anarchist or Cant Pay? Wont Pay secured his reputation as the outstanding political playwright of his age. Unlike other writers of a similar mind, Fos chosen genre was farce, so his drama is a uniquely engaging mixture of laughter and anger. In 1954 he married Franca Rame (19292013), a member of a family-company of touring players. The personal and professional partnership of the two over sixty years was probably unique in theatre history. Her inherited, instinctive knowledge of stagecraft was invaluable to him, but although she was always recognised as an actor of considerable talent, her contribution to the writing of the plays was long undervalued. With the emergence of the feminist movement she increasingly asserted herself, notably with a series of one-woman works she wrote and performed. She became one of Italys and Europes leading feminist campaigners, and as such a target for right-wing terrorist groups. In 1973, she was kidnapped and raped by neo-Fascist thugs. Although the subjects of their plays, with their fearless attacks on corruption and satire of Popes and politicians, were often taken from the headlines of the day, their theatre was deeply rooted in theatrical tradition. The Nobel Prize citation stated that Fo emulated the jesters of the Middle Ages in scourging authority and upholding the dignity of the downtrodden, but this political campaigning came at a cost. The couples militant reputation meant that they were for many years barred from Italian television and banned from entering the USA, but their plays were staged from London to Tokyo and they themselves were acclaimed wherever they toured. Joseph Farrell translated many of their works and knew Dario and Franca well. His biography is a complete account of the various activities and multifaceted lives of two extraordinary individuals. In Mark Dunns new novel, his alter ego, Griffin Stoddard, a long-time admirer of Cranford author, Mrs Gaskell, chances upon her work called We Five. He comes to learn that the novel unpublished in her lifetime was subsequently adapted by three other writers. Stoddard draws together the four versions and writes his own to complement them. The result is a novel which spans five different historical periods a small mill town near Manchester in 1859, San Francisco in the days before the 1906 earthquake, the fictional Zenith, Winnemac of 1923, autumn in 1940s war torn London and a small town in Northern Mississippi in 1997 and follows five childhood friends Ruth, Jane, Molly, Maggie and Carrie their encounters with five young men of differing intentions, the girls respective families together with their ever-changing occupations and exploits, concluding with an explosive unification of all five stories. This cleverly constructed novels style is faithful to each era, the vagaries of language and the bonds of friendship. John McCullough's Crowd Voltage addresses yearnings for community. It probes fragmentation within groups and individuals disturbances within the body of the crowd and the crowd of the body. Engaging with working-class and queer experiences, the poems move between solitude and togetherness, haunted by ghosts from history as they dream of unity and discover joy in deserted corners. To be common here is to share not only qualities but stories with many others to be classed alongside people with similar origins and become connected also to what is commonplace in the world of animals and plants, days and tables. Sky and sea dominate as the speakers search for oneness and completion, confronted by vast silences and the shadow of Brightons collapsing West Pier.John McCullough has published four previous collections; most recently, the Costa-shortlisted Reckless Paper Birds (2019), winner of the Hawthornden Prize, and Panic Response (2022), which included his long poem 'Flowers of Sulphur', shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem. His first collection of poems The Frost Fairs (Salt, 2011) won the Polari First Book Prize. Autorid: John McCullough
