Could down-sizing her life mean up-sizing her dreams? Since her daughter grew up and left home, Sandy has found herself filling her house with things - impulse purchases that she just has to have but that quickly lose their sheen. Why would she need an expensive set of copper pans when she has no one to cook for? Realising that her shopping habit is out of control, she asks herself: can she de-clutter, downsize and start a new life? She has always wanted to live on a barge, and she reasons that there is no way she would have room for random purchases on a boat. Taking the bravest decision of her life, Sandy buys and refurbishes a barge in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. Relishing her independence, she is not looking for love, but as the nights draw in and the leaves start to fall from the trees, she finds herself drawn to cafe owner and expert hot chocolate maker Abe. Is she willing to take a second chance on finding the one? A funny, relatable later-in-life romance that fans of Milly Johnson, Sue Moorcroft and Julie Caplin will adore. Autorid: Helga Jensen
The hypocephalus is an element of Late Period and Ptolemaic funerary equipmentan amuletic disc placed under the head of mummies. Its shape emulates the suns disc, and its form is planar (although it is occasionally concave). This volume analyses the written records and iconography of these objects. The hypocephalus is an element of Late Period and Ptolemaic funerary equipment &; an amuletic disc placed under the head of mummies. Its shape emulates the sun&;s disc, and its form is planar, although it occasionally has a concave shape (in such cases, it protects the head as a funerary cap). The earliest known example can be dated to the 4th century BC and the latest to the 2nd/1st century BC. The Hypocephalus: An Ancient Egyptian Funerary Amulet analyses both the texts and iconography of these objects. So far, 158 examples are known; several, unfortunately, from old descriptions only. The relatively low number shows that the object was not a widespread item of funerary equipment. Only priest and priestly families used them, those of Amon in Thebes, of Min in Akhmim, and the ones of Ptah in Memphis. Among the examples, no two are identical. In some details, every piece is an individualized creation. Ancient Egyptian theologians certainly interpreted hypocephali as the iris of the wedjat-eye, amidst which travels the sun-god in his hidden, mysterious and tremendous form(s). The hypocephalus can be considered as the sun-disk itself. It radiates light and energy towards the head of the deceased, who again becomes a living being, feeling him/herself as &;one with the Earth&; through this energy. The texts and the iconography derive principally from the supplementary chapters of the Book of the Dead. Some discs directly cite the text of spell 162 which furnishes the mythological background of the invention of the disc by the Great Cow, who protected her son Re by creating the disc at his death. Written in Renaissance Italy, The Prince remains one of history's most influential political works. With sharp realism and bold clarity, Machiavelli examines how rulers gain, wield, and preserve authority in an uncertain world. Rejecting idealism for practical truth, he explores leadership, fear, fortune, war, and human nature. Both admired and controversial, this classic continues to shape debates on politics, ambition, and the price of power. Autorid: Niccolo Machiavelli, Michelle Datin, Copyright
