Color has always been a powerful tool in architecture: it can influence perceptions of space and form, conveys meaning and intention and guides the viewer's sensory experience. However, it has lost importance in architectural practice and teaching. With the volume Colors, the Graz-based research collective Diskursiv conveys a mood of contemporary architecture in its use of color. The contributors approach the topic on a theoretical level and, by stressing the potential impact of color, make an impassioned case for its return to the architectural discourse: against the dogma of the universal white box and for a rediscovery of color as a central instrument of architecture. The second volume by the Graz architectural research collective Diskursiv Considers the positions, approaches, and working methods of various architecture offices with regard to color and colorfulness
The Mirror of the Sea (1906) is Joseph Conrad's reflective, autobiographical meditation on the life of a sailor and the power of the ocean. Blending memoir, essay, and lyrical prose, Conrad describes the seafaring world he knew intimately-its ships, storms, harbors, and the unique camaraderie among sailors. Rather than telling a single narrative, the book offers thematic sketches about seamanship, the mysteries of the sea, and the emotional bond between humans and the maritime world. It's both a tribute to the beauty and terror of the ocean and a personal testament to how profoundly the sea shaped Conrad's character and imagination.
The book introduces the most important statistical methods for analyzing multivariate data sets. After reading the book, the reader (female, male) is able to autonomously carry out comprehensive statistical analyzes of data. The steps for finding a solution with SPSS are shown in the book. The individual procedures are explained using easy-to-understand examples to ensure learning success. Previous knowledge of statistics is helpful for reading the book, but not essential. The procedures presented are plausible even without prior basic knowledge of statistics. This book was written over a period of twenty semesters and benefited from the questions raised by the listeners in my lecture.
The Good Soldier (1915) by Ford Madox Ford is a modernist novel that tells the story of two seemingly respectable couples-the English Ashburnhams and the American Dowells-whose lives are intertwined in deception, infidelity, and tragedy. Narrated by John Dowell, an unreliable and often bewildered storyteller, the novel gradually reveals the affair between Edward Ashburnham (the "good soldier") and Florence Dowell, as well as Edward's other entanglements. Beneath the façade of aristocratic manners and moral uprightness lies a world of betrayal, hypocrisy, and emotional collapse. Through its fragmented narrative and shifting perspectives, the novel explores themes of truth, illusion, passion, and the destructive consequences of repressed desires.
An unprecedented gathering of the correspondence of one of the great writers of the twentieth century, The Collected Letters of Flann OBrien presents an intimate look into the life and thought of Brian ONolan, a prolific author of novels, stories, sketches, and journalism who famously wrote and presented works to the reading public under a variety of pseudonyms. Spanning the years 1934 to 1966, these compulsively readable letters show us ONolan, or OBrien, or Myles Na gCopaleen, or whatever his name may be, at his most cantankerous and profound. Edited by Maebh Long, Senior Lecturer of English, University of Waikato NZ , author of Assembling Flann OBrien. Autorid: Flann O'Brien, Maebh Long
