Approaches to Ancient Etruria covers a wide range of topics within the legacy of the Etruscans material and immaterial. Through close examination of the visible we gain insight into the questions of social and cultural identities, and broader questions lead to new interpretations and hypotheses. In fifteen articles, scholars from Italy, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark present recent work on a broad range of Etruscan issues. Contributions include a settlement study and a detailed work on architectural mouldings, and they provide insights into religious practices, burial customs, funerary art, portraiture and social relations, deduced from epigraphical testimonia. Several articles deal with imagery in tombs, tomb paintings, bronze reliefs etc. one presenting a new hypothesis on the scenes on the Tragliatella oinochoe, another examining the Magistratensarkophag from Tomba dei Sarcofagi in Cerveteri while others explore space in tombs or invite the reader to experience images of nature or imagine Etruscan music. Two contributions deal with objects in the Etruscan Collection created by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen during his extended sojourn in Rome (17971838). Danish Studio Ceramics 1950-2010 is the prosaic title of this catalogue of Designmuseum Danmark's collection of unique ceramic works from the sixty-year period covering the post-war years and leading up to the present. The catalogue describes 632 works by 133 ceramicists and artists, and in doing so gives an overview of the diversity and high quality of Danish ceramics. This process documents and throws into relief the paradigmatic shift which has taken place since the 1980s, when handmade functional ceramic articles for domestic use began to be overtaken by free sculptural forms of expression, and at the same time the centre of gravity in this field began to move from a nationally rooted central basis towards extended interaction with the international ceramic scene. The aim of this catalogue is to provide a nuanced depiction of a remarkable epoch in the history of Danish ceramics, as represented in Designmuseum Danmark's collections, which have not previously been documented in a comprehensive form and which have only been exhibited on a limited scale. Cold War history research of the recent years suggests that the East-West détente process of the 1970s was a more significant element than previously believed in understanding and explaining the processes on both sides of the East-West divide which led to the peaceful end of the Cold War in the late 1980s. The manuscript Kiel, University Library S.H. 8 A. 8o, which contains the earliest copy of the so-called Roskilde Chronicle” as well as the complete monastic Offices and Masses of the Danish St Knud Lavard (†1131), was published in facsimile, together with an edition of the liturgical material, by John Bergsagel in 2010. The 2009 issue of Acta Hyperborea is devoted to the many aspects of the goddess Artemis/Diana. Articles discuss her possible origins in ancient Iran and other near eastern goddesses that might have become part of her cult. Artemis was seen as a goddess of the hunt and as a protector of children and women in childbirth. She was also associated with the moon and healing. In the studies of Greek literary representations of Artemis and of archeological sites associated with her in Greek and Roman territories, many of the authors strike a balance between Artemis as an imported "colonial" cult and her syncretism with local deities. One essay, on the relationship of Artemis with the goddess Spartan Orthia in the seventh century BCE, is in German, with the others in English.
