Today, Neom is a utopian dream—a megacity of the future yet to be built in the Saudi desert. In this deeply imaginative novel from the award-winning universe of Central Station, far-future Neom is already old. Sentient machines roam the desert searching for purpose, works of art can be more deadly than weapons, and the spark of a long-overdue revolution is in the wind. Only the rekindling of an impossible love affair may slow the inevitable sands of time.“This was superb and I’m in awe of Tidhar’s vision. He’s conjured up a futuristic city that feels simultaneously ultramodern and also run down.”—The Speculative ShelfThe city known as Neom is many things to many beings, human or otherwise. It is a tech wonderland for the rich and beautiful; an urban sprawl along the Red Sea; and a port of call between Earth and the stars. In the desert, young orphan Elias has joined a caravan, hoping to earn his passage off-world. But the desert is full of mechanical artefacts, some unexplained and some unexploded. Recently, a wry, unnamed robot has unearthed one of the region’s biggest mysteries: the vestiges of a golden man.In Neom, childhood affection is rekindling between loyal shurta-officer Nasir and hardworking flower-seller Mariam. But Nasu, a deadly terrorartist, has come to the city with missing memories and unfinished business. Just one robot can change a city’s destiny with a single rose—especially when that robot is in search of lost love.Lavie Tidhar's (Unholy Land, The Escapement) newest lushly immersive novel, Neom, which includes a guide to the Central Station-verse, is at turns gritty, comedic, transportive, and fascinatingly plausible. Moonflower Publishing Fortunes Of Olivia Richmond
GTIN: 9781916678033 Raamatud
After a terrible tragedy, governess Julia Pearlie finds herself with no job, home, or references. When she's offered a position as companion to Miss Olivia Richmond, her luck appears to be turning. But Mistcoate House is full of secrets. Olivia has a sinister reputation. The locals call her the Mistcoate Witch, thanks to her tarot readings, and her insistence that she can speak to the dead. Her father, Dr Richmond, believes this to be girlish fantasy and is looking to Julia to put a stop to it. Determined to prove herself and shake off her own murky history, Julia sets to work trying to help Olivia become a proper young lady. However, as she becomes a fixture at Mistcoate, it is soon clear that there may be more to Olivia's stories than Dr Richmond would have Julia believe - not least because somehow, Olivia seems to know something of the darkness that Julia desperately hoped she had left behind. As the danger grows, and the winter chill wraps around the dark woods surrounding Mistcoate, Julia will have to fight to uncover the truth, escape her past - and save herself. Original and engrossing, this chilling Victorian Gothic ghost story is an outstanding piece of storytelling, perfect for fans of Sarah Perry, Erin Morgenstern and Jessie Burton. "The Fortunes of Olivia Richmond is a darkly gothic historical mystery in all the best traditions of the genre. Lyrical writing, a perfect setting, haunting characters and a village of broken people. I absolutely loved it. A standout book that I whole-heartedly recommend. Breathtaking." - Helen Fields, bestselling author of Perfect Remains and These Lost And Broken Things "This engaging novel cleverly mixes the psychic and the psychological, as we, along with Julia Pearlie, try to make sense of the disturbing goings-on at Mistcoate House. Peopled by vividly realised characters and with a strong period feel, Davidson's novel pays homage to 'sensational' nineteenth-century literature, keeping some of its secrets to the very end." - Sarah Burton, bestselling author of The Strange Adventures of H "This chilling gothic novel is a well-crafted, twisty mystery, perfect for fans of Stacey Halls." Candis Magazine "Absorbing and twisty." Heat Magazine "Gorgeous." Stella Ireland "Magical a perfect Halloween read." Taschen GmbH Steve Schapiro. Andy Warhol and Friends
GTIN: 9783836599177 Raamatud
In 1965, Steve Schapiro started documenting Andy Warhol for LIFE magazine: Warhol was cementing a reputation as an important Pop artist who drew his inspiration from popular culture and commercial objects. With his sunglasses, blond wig, and bland public utterances, Warhol was enigmatic, charismatic, intensely ambitious, and aware that to become a star, you needed the presence of people to document your ascent. Schapiro, also ambitious and hardworking, who in his own words kept quiet and smiled a lot, was an ideal witness to Warhols relentless rise from cult New York artist to 20th-century icon. Ironically, LIFE never published the story, so many of these images are seen here for the first time, scanned from negatives found deep in Schapiros archive. Between 1965 and 1966, Schapiro busily photographed Warhol and his entourage of superstars, including the legendary Edie Sedgwick and Nico, hanging out art openings,. making his underground movie Camp, working on his silkscreens at the Factory, and roaming the streets of New York. Schapiro was also present at the opening of Warhols first museum retrospective at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, attended by a hyped-up crowd of thousands the night where arts coolest new king was crowned and Andymania was born. The final stop on the Warhol express train is Los Angeles, where Andy exhibited his ironic Silver Clouds at the Ferus Gallery, stayed at the picturesque Castle, and set up and filmed a performance by cult band the Velvet Underground. Featuring more than 120 photographs, Schapiros images are juxtaposed with tipped-in plates of original Warhol artworks exhibited during the period. The art works include Before and After, 4, 1962, Colored Campbells Soup Can, 1965, S&H Green Stamps, 1965, One Dollar Bills (Fronts), 1962, 100 Cans, 1962, Flowers, 1965, Shot Red Marilyn, 1964, Elvis I and II (Elvis Diptych] (Ferus Type], 196364, Green Disaster # 2 (Green Disaster Ten Times), 1963, White Disaster (White Car Crash 19 Times), 1963, and many others. Also featuring an interview with Steve Schapiro, who passed away in early 2022, and an essay and extended captions by official Warhol biographer Blake Gopnik. Andy Warhol and Friends 19651966 is a definitive portrait of a groundbreaking artist at a transformative period in postwar American culture. Autorid: Taschen

Strange Attractor Press Muse, Odalisque, Handmaiden: A Girl's Life in the Incredible String Band
GTIN: 9781907222672 Raamatud
A memoir by a member of the Incredible String Band that charts a journey from hippie utopia to post-Woodstock implosion.Between 1967 and 1971 Rose Simpson lived with the Incredible String Band (Mike Heron, Robin Williamson and Licorice McKechnie), morphing from English student to West Coast hippie and, finally, bassist in leathers. The band's image adorned psychedelic posters and its music was the theme song for an alternative lifestyle. Rose and partner Mike Heron believed in, and lived, a naive vision of utopia in Scotland. But they were also a band on tour, enjoying the thrills of that life. They were at the center of &;Swinging London&; and at the Chelsea Hotel with Andy Warhol's superstars. They shared stages with rock idols and played at Woodstock in 1969. Rose and fellow ISB member Licorice were hippie pin-ups, while Heron and Robin Williamson the seers and prophets of a new world.Through a haze of incense and marijuana, they played out their Arcadian dreams on stages brilliant with the colors of clothes, light-shows, rugs, cushions, and exotic instruments. Like most utopias, the ISB's imploded. Never seeing herself as a professional musician, Rose retained an outsider's detachment even while living the life of a hippie chick. Her memoir gives a voice to those flower-wreathed girls whose photographs have become symbols of the psychedelic sixties. Autorid: Rose Simpson

Shaolin Kung Fu Online Library Authentic Shaolin Heritage. Training Methods of 72 Arts of Shaolin
Uus!
GTIN: 9798991963381 Raamatud
The book "Training Methods of 72 Arts of Shaolin" by Jin Jing Zhong is devoted to the most enigmatic and little-known aspect of training of Shaolin monks. The book was written in 1934 with blessing and direct participation of the abbot of the Shaolin Monastery Reverend Miao Xing nicknamed "Golden Arhat", one of the best Shaolin fighters of all times. For the first time the book describes full training methods in all 72 Shaolin Arts. Being until recently for outsiders the most secret part of training of Shaolin monks, which made them invulnerable in fight, 72 Shaolin Arts at the present time become available to all who are ready to practice them persistently and with an open heart. Training methods described in the book allow to develop supernatural abilities, far beyond abilities of an ordinary man. The book has been translated from the Chinese language for the first time. The 72 Secret Arts of Shaolin are methods of preparing the body and the mind for action under extreme conditions (first of all, in conditions of real-life hand-to-hand combat). If you train only hand-to-hand techniques and do not pay attention to special training, you will never achieve the highest mastery and your movements will lack the real force. "The fists are like flowers, and the legs like embroidery needles", laugh the old masters at such "techniques". By 1481 Granada was the last Islamic enclave in Catholic Spain. Granada's last ruler, Muhammad XII 'Boadbil', faced the might of the Spanish royal army revitalised and lavishly equipped with modern artillery. Despite this mismatch of strength it took 11 years of hard campaigning before the Spanish troops could bring their guns to bear on the walls of Granada. After this the outcome could not be long delayed. Andalusia, the physical embodiment of the flowering Islamic culture in Spain, was snuffed out. The commanders, forces, plans and campaign itself are all examined closely in this superbly illustrated account of 'Los Reyes Catolicos' greatest victory.

Robert Aickman, the supreme master of the supernatural, brings together eight stories where strange things happen that the reader is unable to predict. His characters are often lonely and middle-aged but all have the same thing in common - they are all brought to the brink of an abyss that shows how terrifyingly fragile our piece of mind actually is. 'The Next Glade', 'Bind Your Hair' and 'The Stains' appeared together in The Wine-Dark Sea in 1988 while 'The Unsettled Dust', 'The House of the Russians', 'No Stronger Than a Flower', 'The Cicerones' and 'Ravissante' first appeared in Sub Rosa in 1968. The stories were published together as The Unsettled Dust in 1990. Aickman received the British Fantasy Award in 1981 for 'The Stains', which had first appeared in the anthology New Terrors (1980), before appearing in the last original posthumous collection of Aickman's short stories, Night Voices (1985). "We are all potential victims of the powers Aickman so skilfully conjures and commands". (Robert Bloch).

A superbly illustrated study of a major conflict between the southern New England colonists and the area's indigenous Native Americans, which comprised the Native Americans’ last major effort to drive the English colonists out of New England. A superbly illustrated study of a major conflict between the southern New England colonists and the area's indigenous Native Americans, which comprised the Native Americans' last major effort to drive the English colonists out of New England.King Philip's War was the result of over 50 years' tension between the native inhabitants of New England and its colonial settlers, as the two parties competed for land and resources. The Native Americans were led by the Wampanoag chief Metacomet (who adopted the name Philip on account of the friendly relations between his father Massasoit and the Mayflower Pilgrims), and comprised a coalition of the Wampanoag, Nipmuck, Pocumtuck, and Narraganset tribes. They fought against a force of over 1,000 men raised by the New England Confederation of Plymouth, Connecticut, New Haven, and Massachusetts Bay, alongside their Indian allies the Mohegans and Mohawks. The fighting took place in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and later Maine and New Hampshire. It resulted in the destruction of 12 of the region's towns, while over half the towns in New England were attacked and thousands of homes burnt to the ground by warriors from Metacomet's coalition. Although the end result was a victory for the colonists, the war brought the local economy to its knees, halting trade and increasing taxation, and its populations were decimated by the fighting. Between 600–800 colonists and 3,000 Indians were killed in the conflict, making it the deadliest war in the history of American colonization. This new study reveals the full story of this influential conflict as it raged across New England. Packed with maps, battlescenes, and bird's-eye-views, this is a comprehensive guide to the war which determined the future of colonial America.

Little, Brown Book Group Private Gardens of England
GTIN: 9781472121011 Raamatud
The Sunday Times Gardening Book of the Year Described by Vogue as 'the revelatory garden book for our age' and a 'splendid new book' (Sebastian Shakespeare, Daily Mail), The Private Gardens of England is a glorious celebration of the art of gardening through some of the country's hidden horticultural jewels. Thirty-five English private gardens, thoughtfully selected by the writer and designer Tania Compton, are vividly described in the words of their owners, who bring an astonishing sense of intimacy to their own creations as well as their collaborations with some of the leading garden designers of today. From the Bannermans' romantic Cornish castle to the windswept shores of Howick in Northumberland via Jasper Conran in Somerset and Tom Stuart-Smith in Hertfordshire, an eclectic range of gardens is revealed. The traditional English garden is seen through the fresh eyes of plantswomen such as Mary-Anne Robb at Cothay Manor and Arabella Lennox-Boyd at Gresgarth Hall, alongside Hilborough House in Norfolk and Ferne Park in Dorset that recently only existed as fields. The historic landscape gardens of Boughton House and St Paul's Walden Bury are explored alongside the contemporary and conceptual at Plaz Metaxu in Devon. From the private walled garden at Petworth to the wildflower-strewn meadows of Spye Park, each garden is a testament to the thriving art of English gardening. With contributions from the country's best garden photographers, The Private Gardens of England reveals gardening at its highest level. It will inform and inspire anyone with a love of gardening, beauty and excellence. 'The photographs are take-your-breath-away spellbinding ...The minute level of detail here will satisfy real gardeners, elevating this book far above its competition.' Sarah Feeley, English Garden 'Captures a brilliant moment in our history, where plantsmanship, good design and love of plants have all come together ...compelling format ...the photography and production are superb.' Little, Brown Book Group Heartbreaker: A Memoir
GTIN: 9781408720219 Raamatud
THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A fast-paced, tender-hearted rock 'n' roll memoir for the ages, Mike Campbell's Heartbreaker is part rags-to-riches story and part raucous, seat-of-the-pants adventure, recounting Campbell's life and times as lead guitarist of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Mike Campbell was the lead guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers from the band's inception in 1976 to Petty's tragic death in 2017. His iconic, melodic playing helped form the foundation of the band's sound, as heard on definitive classics like 'American Girl', 'Breakdown', 'Don't Come Around Here No More', 'Mary Jane's Last Dance', 'Learning to Fly' and 'Into the Great Wide Open'. Together, Petty and Campbell wrote countless songs, including some of the band's biggest hits: 'Refugee', 'Here Comes My Girl', 'You Got Lucky' and 'Runnin' Down a Dream' among them. From their early days in Florida to their dizzying rise to superstardom to Petty's acclaimed, platinum-selling solo albums Full Moon Fever and Wildflowers, Petty never made a record without him. Their work together is timeless, as are the career-defining hits Campbell co-wrote with Don Henley ('The Boys of Summer') and with Petty for Stevie Nicks ('Stop Draggin' My Heart Around'). But few know of the less-than-glamorous background from which Campbell emerged - a hardscrabble childhood on the north side of Jacksonville, often just days ahead of homelessness, raised by a single mother struggling on minimum wage. After months of saving, his mother bought him a $15 pawnshop acoustic guitar for his sixteenth birthday. With a chord book and a transistor radio, Campbell painstakingly taught himself to play. When a chance encounter with a guidance counsellor inspired him to enrol in the University of Florida, Campbell - broke, with nowhere else to go and the Vietnam draft looming - moved into a rundown farmhouse in Gainesville, where he met a twenty-year-old Tom Petty. They were soon inseparable. Together they chased their shared dream all the way to Los Angeles, where Campbell would meet his destiny, and the love of his life, Marcie. It was an at-times gruelling dream come true that took Campbell from the very bottom to the absolute top, where Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers would remain for decades, creating an astonishing body of work. Brilliant, soft-spoken and intensely private, Campbell opens up within these pages for the first time, revealing himself to be an astute observer of triumphs, tragedies and absurdities alike, with a songwriter's eye for the telling detail and a voice as direct and unpretentious as his music. An instant classic, Heartbreaker is Mike Campbell's heartfelt portrait of one throwaway kid's lifesaving love of music and the creative heights he achieved through luck, collaboration, humility and extraordinary talent.

"A vampire couple sinks their teeth into solving a murder in this delightful and charming paranormal mystery. All Arthur wants is a quiet afterlife. All his partner, Salvatore, wants is to slather himself in glitter lotion so people think he's the kind of vampire that sparkles in the sunlight. They've compromised by stocking up on supersized bottles of moisturizer and becoming the proprietors of the Iris Inn, a B&B located in the charming small town of Trident Falls. Well, maybe not so charming. AlthoughArthur recalls the village fondly from his mortal days, it turns out the modern-day Trident Falls isn't too accepting of paranormals. Hoping to make a good impression nonetheless, Arthur and Salvatore are thrilled when the inn receives its first guest. They're slightly less thrilled when the town's mayor is found dead in their garden, with puncture wounds that look suspiciously like bites on his neck. The natural suspects? Transworld Publishers Ltd In My Life: A Music Memoir
GTIN: 9780552174763 Raamatud
His love affair with pop music blossomed alongside the music itself, which exploded into being in the mid-1950s and came to embody the iconoclastic spirit of a new era. Honest, poignant and very funny, it is more than just a nostalgic celebration of music: it offers a new perspective on the singular life of Alan Johnson the man. From the moment a young Alan Johnson first twanged the strings of his plastic ‘Tommy Steele’ guitar, he was determined to become a rock star. Alan’s life has always been lived to a musical soundtrack. His earliest memories of the bleak, post-war, pre-rock ’n’ roll west London landscape into which he was born are suffused with the melodies that wafted from the rented Bakelite wireless in the slum where he lived with his frail mother and dauntless sister. His love affair with pop music blossomed alongside the music itself, which exploded into being in the mid-1950s and came to embody the iconoclastic spirit of a new era. In this memoir, Alan looks back at his pursuit of rock stardom, and his parallel life as a supermarket worker, postman, union official and father of three, through the music that accompanied it – on vinyl, cassette tape or blasting from the stages of the Marquee club in Soho or the Wimbledon Palais; the sounds of Chuck Berry and Lonnie Donegan, of the Yardbirds and Dylan, of Bowie, Elvis Costello and Springsteen . . . not forgetting the Beatles, the band he has worshipped since 1963. In My Life recalls with affection a vanished world of Dansettes, dancehalls and smoky pubs, Flower Power and platform shoes. Honest, poignant and very funny, it is more than just a nostalgic celebration of music: it offers a new perspective on the singular life of Alan Johnson the man. Autorid: Alan Johnson

Yale University Press Suspended Sentences: Three Novellas
GTIN: 9780300198058 Raamatud
Elegant. Unpretentious. Approachable. . . . He is, all in all, quite an endearing Nobelist.Michael Dirda, Washington Post Modiano is a pure original.Adam Thirlwell, The Guardian A fine introduction to Modianos later work. The Economist These novellas have a mood. They cast a spell.Dwight Garner, New York Times In this essential trilogy of novellas by the winner of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Literature, French author Patrick Modiano reaches back in time, opening the corridors of memory and exploring the mysteries to be encountered there. Each novella in the volume--Afterimage, Suspended Sentences, and Flowers of Ruinrepresents a sterling example of the authors originality and appeal, while Mark Polizzottis superb English-language translations capture not only Modianos distinctive narrative voice but also the matchless grace and spare beauty of his prose. Although originally published separately, Modianos three novellas form a single, compelling whole, haunted by the same gauzy sense of place and characters. Modiano draws on his own experiences, blended with the real or invented stories of others, to present a dreamlike autobiography that is also the biography of a place. Orphaned children, mysterious parents, forgotten friends, enigmatic strangerseach appears in this three-part love song to a Paris that no longer exists. Shadowed by the dark period of the Nazi Occupation, these novellas reveal Modianos fascination with the lost, obscure, or mysterious: a young persons confusion over adult behavior; the repercussions of a chance encounter; the search for a missing father; the aftershock of a fatal affair. To read Modianos trilogy is to enter his world of uncertainties and the almost accidental way in which people find their fates. Autorid: Patrick Modiano, Mark Polizzotti

Cornerstone Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud and the Last Trial of Harper Lee
GTIN: 9780099510598 Raamatud
A BARACK OBAMA BOOK OF THE YEAR WINNER OF THE 2020 CRIME WRITERS' ASSOCIATION ALCS GOLD DAGGER FOR NON-FICTION SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2019 BAILLIE GIFFORD PRIZE FOR NON-FICTION A SUNDAY TIMES, ECONOMIST AND SPECTATOR BOOK OF THE YEAR 'A triumph on every level. One of the losses to literature is that Harper Lee never found a way to tell a gothic true-crime story she'd spent years researching. Casey Cep has excavated this mesmerizing story and tells it with grace and insight and a fierce fidelity to the truth.' DAVID GRANN, author of Killers of the Flower Moon _____________________________ The stunning story of an Alabama serial killer and the true-crime book that Harper Lee worked on obsessively in the years after To Kill a Mockingbird Reverend Willie Maxwell was a rural preacher accused of murdering five of his family members for insurance money in the 1970s. With the help of a savvy lawyer, he escaped justice for years until a relative shot him dead at the funeral of his last victim. Despite hundreds of witnesses, Maxwell's murderer was acquitted - thanks to the same attorney who had previously defended the Reverend. As Alabama is consumed by these gripping events, it's not long until news of the case reaches Alabama's - and America's - most famous writer. Intrigued by the story, Harper Lee makes a journey back to her home state to witness the Reverend's killer face trial. Harper had the idea of writing her own In Cold Blood, the true-crime classic she had helped her friend Truman Capote research. Lee spent a year in town reporting on the Maxwell case and many more years trying to finish the book she called The Reverend. Now Casey Cep brings this story to life, from the shocking murders to the courtroom drama to the racial politics of the Deep South. At the same time, she offers a deeply moving portrait of one of the country's most beloved writers and her struggle with fame, success, and the mystery of artistic creativity. This is the story Harper Lee wanted to write. This is the story of why she couldn't. _____________________________ 'Fascinating ... Cep has spliced together a Southern-gothic tale of multiple murder and the unhappy story of Lee's literary career, to produce a tale that is engrossing in its detail and deeply poignant... (Cep] spends the first third of Furious Hours following the jaw-dropping trail of murders ... Engrossing ... Cep writes about all this with great skill, sensitivity and attention to detail.' SUNDAY TIMES 'It's been a long time since I picked up a book so impossible to put down. Furious Hours made me forget dinner, ignore incoming calls, and stay up reading into the small hours. It's a work of literary and legal detection as gripping as a thriller. But it's also a meditation on motive and mystery, the curious workings of history, hope, and ambition, justice, and the darkest matters of life and death. Casey Cep's investigation into an infamous Southern murder trial and Harper Lee's quest to write about it is a beautiful, sobering, and sometimes chilling triumph.' HELEN MACDONALD, author of H is for Hawk 'This story is just too good ... Furious Hours builds and builds until it collides with the writer who saw the power of Maxwell's story, but for some reason was unable to harness it. It lays bare the inner life of a woman who had a world-class gift for hiding ... (this] book makes a magical leap, and it goes from being a superbly written true-crime story to the sort of story that even Lee would have been proud to write.'
