Erstmal publiziert und kommentiert die Korrespondenz Nolde – KleeDas Buch, dessen Titel eine von Paul Klee überlieferte Charakterisierung seines Künstlerfreundes Nolde aufgreift, erscheint anlässlich der Ausstellung "Emil Nolde" im Zentrum Paul Klee und enthält neben den Abbildungen der dort präsentierten Werke die erstmalig publizierte Korrespondenz -zwischen den Ehepaaren Nolde und Klee. Die -Begegnung mit dem Fremden schien Emil Noldes künstlerische Arbeit stets zu beflügeln. In seinem Werk finden sich denn auch vielfältige Bezüge zum Grotesken, dem Fantastischen und dem Exotischen – eine Faszination, die er mit Paul Klee teilte. Grotesken erlaubten es beiden, das zeitgenössische Geschehen kritisch zu kommentieren. Fantastische Darstellungen entspringen bei Nolde dem ernst-haften Spiel mit dem Unbekannten und Unheim-lichen und nehmen dementsprechend eine zentrale Position in seinem Werk ein, während bei Paul Klee das Reich der Geister, Dämonen und anderer Mischwesen als eine spannende Parallelwelt eher der Erbauung zu dienen scheint. Exo-tische Motive bildeten für Nolde wie auch für Klee und viele ihrer Zeitgenossen ein neues inspirierendes Formen-vokabular, das das Korsett der europäischen Tradition zu sprengen verhalf. Im vorliegenden Band, der Werke Noldes zeigt, die bislang etwas am Rande des Interesses der Kunstwelt standen, für den Künstler jedoch von großer -Bedeutung waren und -deshalb unsere ganze Aufmerksamkeit verdienen, wird erstmals auch die erhaltene Korrespondenz zwischen Emil und Ada Nolde mit Paul und Lily Klee publiziert und kommentiert.
