Other Press LLC Last Island: A Novel
GTIN: 9781635422221 Raamatud
"From the internationally bestselling author of Disquiet, a brilliant political allegory that vividly illustrates how capitalism and authoritarianism harm us and the environment. A retired General-the leader of the latest military takeover-moves to a peaceful island and decides to rid it of what he sees as its last remaining "anarchic" components. The island, described by its people as a utopia, the last peaceful resort for mankind, morphs into dystopia when the General, in the hope of bringing order to the island life, begins to act more and more like a dictator. The first ones to revolt against the General are the seagulls. Originally written in 2008 as a condemnation of the authoritarian Turkish regime, The Last Island has only grown more relevant, foreshadowing the events and aftermath of Istanbul's bloody Gezi Park/Taksim Square political protests of 2013, as well as the protest movements of our time"-- From the internationally bestselling author of Disquiet, a brilliant political allegory that vividly illustrates how capitalism and authoritarianism harm us and the environment.Having failed to hold onto power after an ironfisted first term, the former President moves to a secluded island and decides to rid it of what he sees as its “anarchic” components. The island, described by its close-knit community as a utopia, the last peaceful resort for humankind, morphs into dystopia when the President, in the hope of bringing order to island life, begins to act more and more like a dictator. The first ones to revolt against him are the seagulls. Originally written in 2008 as a condemnation of the authoritarian Turkish regime, The Last Island has only grown more relevant, foreshadowing the events and aftermath of Istanbul’s bloody Gezi Park/Taksim Square political protests of 2013, as well as the protest movements of our time. GTIN: 9781032642222 Raamatud
The book introduces industry standard methods for modeling of the phase behavior of petroleum reservoir fluids. The third edition has expanded coverage of energy properties and equations of state suitable for CO2-rich fluids. New data and simulation results are presented for wax and asphaltene precipitation. Developed in conjunction with several oil companies using experimental data for real reservoir fluids, Phase Behavior of Petroleum Reservoir Fluids introduces industry standard methods for modeling the phase behavior of petroleum reservoir fluids at different stages in the process. Keeping mathematics to a minimum, this book discusses sampling, characterization, compositional analyses, and equations of state used to simulate various pressure–volume–temperature (PVT) properties of reservoir fluids. The Third Edition has been updated throughout.Reflects advances in equation of state modeling for reservoir fluids and CO2-rich fluidsPresents association models along with non-classical mixing rules for handling fluids with aqueous componentsHas an extended coverage of reservoir fluid communication, energy properties, and asphaltene precipitationProvides practical knowledge essential for achieving optimal design and cost-effective operations in a petroleum processing plantThis book offers engineers working in the energy sector a solid understanding of the phase behavior of the various fluids present in a petroleum reservoir. Bloomsbury Publishing PLC Intersecting Threads: Art, Cloth and Intersectional Feminism
GTIN: 9781350422223 Raamatud
Examining the significance of cloth in the work of contemporary feminist artists, Intersecting Threads: Art, Cloth and Intersectional Feminism draws on Black feminist theories, queer theories, and anti-colonial theories such as opacity, as well as scholarship on the nonhuman turn in the humanities. In a world where intersectional feminist approaches are increasingly important, this book adds to the growing literature on contemporary feminist art, making a significant contribution to discussions on queer, feminist and anti-racist artists and their work. Through a close reading of both the art and writing of feminist artists including Faith Ringgold, Louise Bourgeois, Elisabeth Perrault, Tau Lewis, and Candice Lin, Julia Skelly shows how their work may be productively analysed through Black feminist scholar and activist Kimberlé W. Crenshaws theoretical framework of intersectional feminism. Writing as a Black feminist legal scholar, Crenshaws framework is dedicated to illuminating the different kinds of violence that women of colour experience, but it has become an indispensable analytic tool for feminist art historians concerned not only with gender, but also with race, class, and sexuality. Illustrated with over thirty-five images, Intersecting Threads demonstrates the overlaps amongst the political concerns of 20th- and 21st-century feminist artists and reveals the power of textiles in the context of ongoing racism and misogyny. Henry Holt & Company Girls(r): Generation Z and the Commodification of Everything
Tootekood: A63529064 GTIN: 9781250442222 Raamatud
A bold and timely investigation into how it feels to grow up in a world where every anxiety of girlhood has been commodifiedGIRLS®: Generation Z and the Commodification of Everything is a passionate, provocative, and deeply personal journey into the pressures shaping young lives today. Freya India shows that age-old anxieties of girlhood are now being amplified by modern life and exploited like never before. While previous generations of women were relentlessly sold products and procedures, we have become the product. We display our lives on Instagram, advertise ourselves on dating apps, and package ourselves into personal brands, making anxiety feel overwhelming and unmanageable. We have transformed from girls into GIRLS®, from people into products. Each chapter of GIRLS® focuses on a common anxiety in adolescent girls' lives, from insecurities about our faces and bodies, to our reputation and social status, to our friendships and romantic relationships. Along the way, India traces how rapidly culture and technology have evolved over the past decade. This isn't just a book for girls. For young women, it offers a nostalgic, if unsettling, reflection on the world they've grown up in and reassurance that they're not alone in their struggles. For younger girls, it provides context for where these challenges began and warns where they might be headed. And, for parents, teachers, and older generations, it serves as a reminder that these issues have never been so intense.GIRLS® concludes with a message of hope, reminding readers how to reclaim their privacy, defend their dignity, and, above all, return to being people instead of products.

Springer Berlin Heidelberg Mean Field Models for Spin Glasses: Volume II: Advanced Replica-Symmetry and Low Temperature
Tootekood: A14720012 GTIN: 9783642222528 Raamatud
This is a new, completely revised, updated and enlarged edition of the author's Ergebnisse vol. 46: "Spin Glasses: A Challenge for Mathematicians" in two volumes (this is the 2nd volume). In the eighties, a group of theoretical physicists introduced several models for certain disordered systems, called "spin glasses". These models are simple and rather canonical random structures, of considerable interest for several branches of science (statistical physics, neural networks and computer science). The physicists studied them by non-rigorous methods and predicted spectacular behaviors. This book introduces in a rigorous manner this exciting new area to the mathematically minded reader. It requires no knowledge whatsoever of any physics. The present Volume II contains a considerable amount of new material, in particular all the fundamental low-temperature results obtained after the publication of the first edition.

Raelys was born in a prison. To outsiders, it looks like a palace. But after a decade of war, even gilded walls begin to look like iron bars. Martino Fine Books The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses
Tootekood: A33907766 GTIN: 9781684222247 Raamatud
2018 Reprint of 1880 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition. Not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. The full title of this work is: The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses, Or, Moses' Magical Spirit-Art: Known as the Wonderful Arts of the Old Wise Hebrews, Taken from the Mosaic Books of the Cabala and the Talmud, For the Good Of Mankind. It is a magical text allegedly written by Moses and passed down as hidden (or lost) books of the Christian Old Testament. A grimoire, a text of magical incantations and seals, it purports to instruct the reader in the spells used to create the miracles portrayed in the Bible. While versions of The Sixth and Seventh Books were likely passed around German immigrant communities from the late 18th century, the 1849 Leipzig copy was followed by a New York printing, in German, in 1865, and an English translation in 1880. The growth of inexpensive paperback publication in the 19th century, like those of Chicago occult publisher L. W. de Laurence, helped the work gain popularity outside German communities. The boom in inexpensive publishing, and the interest in Spiritualism helped the work gain popularity in the African American population of the southern United States, and from there, the Anglophone parts of the Caribbean. There it became one of the founding works of the Rastafari movement of the early 20th century.
