When seen through Jewish eyes, the global future looks darker than it has for generations. Fuelled by venomous Israelophobia, violence against Jews, from Amsterdam to New York, from London to Melbourne, is back. Jews across the West are forced to hide their identities, while in the supposed safe haven of Israel they live under constant threat of rocket fire, shootings and stabbings. To make matters worse, in the United States and across Europe, digitally-fuelled nationalist chauvinism is on the march. It is no exaggeration to say that we are seeing the end of the golden age of post-war safety for Jews. This speaks volumes about the health of the West. Although Jews are among the first in the firing-line, liberal democracy itself is under threat from radicals on both sides of the political spectrum. Unforgivably, we have spent decades undermining our own values of patriotism and tradition, loyalty to peoplehood and homeland, a belief in borders and our peculiar religious and cultural sensibilities. These instincts, which had anchored human society since the dawn of history, were repressed in the name of Never Again; but they slowly gave birth to the opposite. Never Again? How the West betrayed the Jews and itself is an urgent new polemic from the author of the acclaimed Israelophobia, which discloses the social and historical causes of the maze of hostility in which Jews are now trapped. Charting the development of this dangerous cultural and geopolitical moment through a collapse in Western leadership since the Second World War, the award-winning columnist, broadcaster and foreign correspondent Jake Wallis Simons offers a searing analysis of the state of the West, arguing that we must remember our older values and stand up for them before it is too late. 'Essential reading and an urgent and chastening warning to our leaders and voters' SIMON SEBAG MONTEFIORE 'Nobody reading this book can be left in any doubt: the fight against the latest evil upsurge in antisemitism must be won to ensure Western civilisation has a future' ANDREW NEIL 'A compelling and timely call to fight for our Western values' NIGEL FARAGE 'A timely diagnosis that captures the flawed mindset that is undermining the confidence of the West' KEMI BADENOCH 'A brave and sane voice in a debate all too often shorn of either' ANDREW ROBERTS 'A book about how to recover our confidence . . . recounted in a civil, Scrutonian and occasionally elegiac tone by a man who has lived the story he is telling' DANIEL HANNAN 'An essential book for our troubling times' BERNARD HENRI LEVY 'Jake Wallis Simons is a brave and brilliant writer who can be trusted to bring rar

That the idea of world revolution was crucial for the Bolshevik leaders in the years following the 1917 revolution is a well-known fact. But what did the party's rank and file make of it? How did it resonate with the general population? And what can a social history of international solidarity tell us about the transformation of Soviet society from NEP to Stalinism? The Charism of World Revolution undertakes the first in-depth analysis of the discourses and practices of internationalism in early Soviet society during the years of revolution, civil war and NEP, using forgotten archival materials and contemporary sources. What emerges is a well rounded and inspiring portrait that will help today's readers concretize what internationalism in an era of global struggle looked like. Autorid: Gleb J. A man does not leave school at fourteen, make a fortune by forty and go on to become a skilful and powerful politician without ruthlessness. Hugh Mason was the kind of man it was very easy to hate, if you were not susceptible to his particular kind of charm. He had of necessity hurt a lot of people on his way up. Taciturn and enigmatic, his extended family did not really know him well. At a weekend gathering for his 60th birthday, it slowly becomes apparent that Hugh plans to give substantial funding and support to a new right-wing political group called the Freemen. The next morning Hugh is dead of poisoning and the evidence suggests a family member must be responsible. But who among them would risk such a move, given that Hugh provides for all? Over forty poems about Appalachia and contemporary West Virginia from the state poet laureate. Dispatch from the Mountain State encompasses the trademark themes of a mature poetdeath, despair, dread, and the seeming randomness with which all of these come into life. The dispatches provide, if sometimes obliquely, a keen awareness of the troubled times within which we live, whether the flashpoint be race, the recent pandemic, or the reckless onslaught of the Appalachian mining industry, which is masterfully addressed in the long poem, The Breach. Harshmans distinctive vision remains both surreal and familiar, whether expressed in a sonnet or the more common free-verse characteristic of most of his work. This collection of over forty poems sings with a fluid voice and dazzles with imagery that surprises and rings true, often underlain by and intertwined with the darker threads of our common living and dying as contemporary Appalachians. It is rare to find a poet like Harshman, who is deeply connected to the life of rural America and yet writes poetry untouched by any sentiment for the old ways found there. Autorid: Marc Harshman
What makes a sustainable city? When planners and politicians talk about making cities more sustainable, they often describe changes to large urban centers like New York City or Los Angeles. Yet when they suggest solutions for sustainable living, they talk about walkable neighborhoods, traditional architecture, and diverse land uses; they talk about small towns. Planners and developers are now working to introduce a small-town feel into our large cities and suburbs in hopes that it will provide a sense of community and reduce the use of automobiles. So, what of small towns themselves? We dont talk about these places as much. They are often assumed to be utopias of the past or crumbling ghost towns of the present day rather than places with potential for sustainable living. This book critically examines narratives of American small towns, contrasting them with lived experiences in these places, and considers both the myth and reality in the context of current urban challenges. Interweaving stories from and about U.S. small towns, it offers lessons in sustainable urbanism that can be applied both in the towns themselves and to the larger cities and suburbs where most Americans now live. A critical examination of American small-town narratives contrasted with lived experiences. Autorid: Jennifer Mapes

Consisting of 1078 Polaroid photos of abstract blue skies above Nazi concentration camps, the work is an unsettling way of looking directly at an unspeakable trauma that is also a fading collective memory.Over a six-year period, Anton Kusters researched and photographed a blue sky at the last known location of every former Nazi Germany SS concentration camp and killing center across Europe. These camps existed for 4432 days, from 1933 to 1945, in a highly organized system of imprisonment, forced labor, and murder. More than half of these 1078 sites (concentration camps) have no visual remains today. Every photograph is manually blindstamped with the number of victims beneath that sky, as well as its gps coordinates.

Power Shift traces recent social and cultural shifts in how we understand and imagine energy, the environment, and the challenges of global warming. Across the globe, the need to transition to renewables has become the guiding reality of our energy present and future, despite continuing resistance to change. But what does this moment of energy transition look like for those struggling to make it happen in a way that benefits every individual and all communities? Featuring brief essays on 101 key terms by scholars, artists, and activists from around the world and across disciplines, Power Shift offers an expansive, kaleidoscopic guide to the history of petromodernity, recent technological and social developments, and pathways to new energy futures. The book offers new insights into the emergent politics of energy, contrasting todays environmental and climate movements with the geopolitical contests of the Cold War era. It explores the still unfolding story of energy transition by focusing on the ongoing struggles of communities and individuals against decisions made by corporations, governments, and international organizations. A keywords-style reference of over 100 contemporary terms on energy and environmental politics connects historical injustices with current environmental crises.
The basic desideratum of the present volume is to threadbare the fundamental theories of economics and their evolutionary trajectory in a simplified way devoid of verbosity and rigmarole. The traces of economic theories have been analysed with reference to, inter alia, their methodological foundations and historical genesis. Past and present theories have been categorised under taxonomical schema into major schools to properly appreciate and differentiate their respective contributions. The historicity of some of the important micro and macro theories have depicted in a very precise way so as to keep the subject well within the area of bounded rationality of the average reader. The final part of the study briefly recapitulates the contemporary issues and changes in macro and monetary economics, and also the substantive development in development economics. It is believed that this little volume will enable the readers to have a bird's eye view of the broad panorama of economic theories both past and present. B.N. . . . the ball drifted further and further and further and then dropped, hitting the pitch well outside leg stump before turning at a brutal, impossible angle . . . Never, in all of cricket's history, has one delivery had such a devastating impact. The game can even be said to be split in two, either side of that moment. After Shane Warne's Ball of the Century, at Old Trafford on 4 June 1993, everything was changed. That burst of superior magic would haunt English cricket for the rest of the decade, as well as transforming the nature of the game - resurrecting the art of leg spin, and plaguing batsmen's dreams. Ball of the Century is the story of cricket's most famous delivery, and the explosive power of its legacy. England would go on to lose every Ashes series that decade; by the summer of 1999, they were rated as the worst team in the world. It was only as a new century dawned that a brighter era began to surface, with the struggles of one decade spawning the redemption of the next. In this ride through nineties Britain, Ashes cricket, leg spin bowling, and the rise of a legend, Ball of the Century explores how a single moment really can shape history. Autorid: Brendan Cooper
