It is usually taken for granted that, in liberal democracies, a bond of political obligation exists between citizens and the state. The substantive, and controversial, argument of this book is that political obligation constitutes an insoluble problem in the liberal democratic state. It is argued that the problem can be solved only within the context of a participatory democratic system. In reaching this conclusion Carole Pateman offers a general assessment of liberal theory and an interpretation of all the familiar arguments about political obligation and democratic consent. Current controversies about democracy and political obligation are fully discussed in the light of both philosophical debate and empirical evidence from research in the social sciences. The Problem of Political Obligation was first published in 1979. This new edition retains the original text but includes a substantial new chapter which clarifies further the central themes of the work. Autorid: Carole Pateman

David Tracy is arguably the most influential Roman Catholic theologian writing in English of the past fifty years, both internationally and beyond confessional borders. His generous and ever-expanding conversations (says contributor Willemien Otten) 'make the future of theology now'. Tracy himself says that they lead him, like Dante, to 'the love that moves the sun and the other stars'. Tracy's most famous book, The Analogical Imagination, is now over four decades old. Yet, in two volumes of his essays published in 2020, Tracy emphasises the ground-breaking new work that he did in the 2010s. His mature theological and cultural vision is in need of fresh assessment, which this book provides. An international cohort of experts introduces the core themes of Tracy's thought, critically exploring their relevance for theology today. Tracy offers a short response of his own, as well as the edited text of a previously unpublished and recent lecture. Autorid: Barnabas Palfrey, Andreas Telser

The study analyzes the importance of implementing an educational model for the Chachi nationality, focused on higher community education within their territory. Through a qualitative and ethnographic methodology, which includes participant observation, semi-structured interviews, photographic records and literature review, the main findings are identified as the need for an education that works as a life project, the questioning of the formal education system for its role in acculturation and homogenization, and the relevance of recovering the culture and ancestral knowledge. It also highlights the community's interest in an educational project that preserves their mother tongue, clothing and traditions, contributing to the sustainability of their cultural identity. The study concludes that this educational model has a significant political impact in the framework of collective rights, promoting the preservation and strengthening of the Chachi identity for future generations.
