'The book I didn't know I'd been waiting for - a fascinating trip through time and space, likening the uncanniness of A.I. not to science fiction but to religious mysteries and the near-humanness of animals. . . erudite and original' Larissa MacFarquhar How do we live ethical lives alongside others? A fascinating, mind-expanding exploration of our moral universe We have always lived with ethically significant others, whether they are the pets we keep, the gods we believe in or the machines we are endowing with life. How should we treat them as our world changes? In Animals, Robots, Gods, acclaimed anthropologist Webb Keane provides a new vision of ethics, defined less by our minds, religion or society, and more by our interactions with those around us. Drawing on ground-breaking research by fieldworkers around the world, he explores the underpinnings of our moral universe. Along the way we investigate the ethical dilemmas of South Asian animal rights activists, Balinese cockfighters, Japanese robot fanciers -- even macho cowboys. We meet a hunter in the Yukon who explains his prey generously gives itself up to him; a cancer sufferer in Thailand who sees his tumour as a reincarnated ox; a computer that gets you to confess your anxieties as if you were on the psychiatrist's couch. With charm, wit and insight, Keane offers us a better understanding of our doubts and certainties, showing how centuries of conversations between us and non-humans inform our conceptions of morality, and will continue to guide us in the age of AI and beyond. <br><br> Autorid: Webb Keane <br>

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the most rapidly developing technology in the current Digital Age, but it is also the least defined, understood and adequately explained technological advance. This book brings together a group of leading experts who assess different aspects of AI from different disciplinary perspectives. The book argues that robots are not living systems but the creations of humans who must ultimately be accountable for the actions of the robots that they have invented. Robots do not have ownership entitlement. The book uses Intellectual Property Rights cases, evidence from roboticists, cybersecurity experts, Patent Court judges, technology officers, climate change scientists, economists, physicists and those from the legal profession to demonstrate that while AI can have very beneficial uses for many aspects of human economy and society, robots are not living systems autonomous from human decision making. This book will be useful to those in banking and insurance, cybersecurity, lawyers, judges, technology officers, economists, scientist inventors, computer scientists, large and small companies and postgraduate students. <br><br> Autorid: Ruth Taplin <br>

An introduction to how neuroethology can inform the development of robots controlled by synaptic networks instead of algorithms, from a pioneer in biorobotics. The trait most fundamental to the evolution of animals is the capability to adapt to novel circumstances in unpredictable environments. Recent advances in biomimetics have made it feasible to construct robots modeled on such unsupervised autonomous behavior, and animal models provide a library of existence proofs. Filling an important gap in the field, this introductory textbook illuminates how neurobiological principles can inform the development of robots that are controlled by synaptic networks, as opposed to algorithms. Joseph Ayers provides a comprehensive overview of the sensory and motor systems of a variety of model biological systems and shows how their behaviors may be implemented in artificial systems, such as biomimetic robots. Introduces the concept of biological intelligence as applied to robots, building a strategy for autonomy based on the neuroethology of simple animal modelsProvides a mechanistic physiological framework for the control of innate behaviorIllustrates how biomimetic vehicles can be operated in the field persistently and adaptivelyDeveloped by a pioneer in biorobotics with decades of teaching experienceProven in the classroom Suitable for professionals and researchers as well as undergraduate and graduate students in cognitive science and computer science <br><br> Autorid: Joseph Ayers <br>
"A textbook on the Biomechanics of Movement that will be useful for courses and also inspiring for researchers in rehabilitation and the design of products as diverse as prosthetics and running shoes"-- An engaging introduction to human and animal movement seen through the lens of mechanics. How do Olympic sprinters run so fast? Why do astronauts adopt a bounding gait on the moon? How do running shoes improve performance while preventing injuries? This engaging and generously illustrated book answers these questions by examining human and animal movement through the lens of mechanics. The authors present simple conceptual models to study walking and running and apply mechanical principles to a range of interesting examples. They explore the biology of how movement is produced, examining the structure of a muscle down to its microscopic force-generating motors. Drawing on their deep expertise, the authors describe how to create simulations that provide insight into muscle coordination during walking and running, suggest treatments to improve function following injury, and help design devices that enhance human performance.Throughout, the book emphasizes established principles that provide a foundation for understanding movement. It also describes innovations in computer simulation, mobile motion monitoring, wearable robotics, and other technologies that build on these fundamentals. The book is suitable for use as a textbook by students and researchers studying human and animal movement. It is equally valuable for clinicians, roboticists, engineers, sports scientists, designers, computer scientists, and others who want to understand the biomechanics of movement. <br><br> Autorid: Thomas K. These inconspicuous-looking devices will perfectly help us with everyday cleaning and allow us to gain quite a lot of free time. Following the ever-increasing user requirements, Blaupunkt introduces a new model of the RVC201 vacuum cleaner robot, which is perfect for smooth wooden, laminated and ceramic floors, as well as carpets and short-pile rugs. The RVC201 model is equipped with 3 operating modes: random, spiral and along the walls, changing regularly from time to time, factory set. It also uses two side sweeping brushes and an efficient 10 W suction motor. Thanks to such solutions, we can be sure that the room will be well vacuumed. This is also facilitated by the compact size of the vacuum cleaner and its low profile, only 7.5 cm, which means that the robot will fit even under low beds or sofas. The vacuum cleaner can work continuously for about 55 minutes, after which the red LED on the switch button will indicate that the battery is discharged. It should then be connected to the ground for about 4-5 hours. The device will work until the battery is discharged or the user turns it off. The RVC201 vacuum cleaner robot saves a lot of time and is an irreplaceable help in everyday cleaning.

2-in-1 Robot Vacuum Cleaner with Mopping - OPTIMUS Aqua Pro Laser 3D VR4050 Smartly Designed Station for Complete Care The multifunctional charging station is designed to simplify daily cleaning. In addition to charging, it features two separate compartments: one for a 1.8 L dust bag, where the robot deposits dirt from its container, and another for clean and dirty water. During mopping, the station automatically dispenses clean water, pumps out dirty water, and washes and dries the cleaning pads after each session. The water tank uses flexible silicone, which expands with a full clean water tank to add up to 0.5 L more, then contracts to make space for dirty water. This ensures maximum and efficient use of space. Mopping with Automatic Washing and Drying of Pads Two rotating mops provide precise and effective cleaning of all hard floors. Before starting, the robot automatically fills the tank with water and wets the cleaning pads. During operation, it can return to refill water and wash the pads if needed. The wetting frequency can be easily set via the app, giving full control over the cleaning process. After cleaning, the robot returns to the multifunctional station, where the mops are washed and thoroughly dried with hot air, eliminating odors and bacteria. Obstacle Avoidance Thanks to advanced 3D object recognition technology, you dont need to check the floor before cleaning. The robot detects even small objects from 3 cm high in real time and adjusts its path accordingly. It wont get tangled in curtains, stuck on socks, or tip over a pets water bowl. It reliably identifies common household obstacles such as shoes, toys, clothes, books, and floor-length curtains. Advanced Laser Navigation - Triple Laser Beam 3D The VR4050 3D Concept robot is equipped with Triple Laser Beam 3D Scan navigation, which uses a trio of precisely aligned laser sensors instead of a camera. These scan the surrounding area and create a detailed map of your home-from walls to small obstacles. This allows precise cleaning without hitting furniture and without storing any image data, protecting your privacy. Carpet Cleaning with Automatic Mop Lifting In the app, you can set how the robot reacts to carpets. In Adapt mode, the rotating mops automatically lift when detecting a carpet and lower again when leaving it, allowing uninterrupted cleaning without changing the route. This mode protects carpets from unwanted moisture and enables smooth transitions between hard floors and carpets. The Avoid mode makes the robot bypass carpets and plan a new cleaning route. Low Profile - Easy Cleaning Under Furniture The VR4050 features an exceptionally low height of only 8.6 cm. Unlike traditional robots with protruding laser towers, the VR4050s laser navigation is cleverly built into the body, reducing height and protecting sensitive components from impacts and dust. This design ensures thorough cleaning even in areas inaccessible to regular vacuums. High Suction Power Equipped with a modern BLDC brushless motor, the robot delivers high performance and long life. The motor provides suction up to 5000 Pa, effectively removing dust and dirt from various surfaces, including carpets. While cleaning with the mop, it generates 10 N of pressure (approx. 1 kg), sufficient for effective cleaning of most surfaces without damage. Cleaning Modes and Suction Settings Modes include: Vacuum only, Mop only, Vacuum then Mop, or Vacuum & Mop simultaneously. Suction levels: Low (quick cleaning), Medium (daily cleaning), High (stronger dirt), and Max (highest power). The Carpet Turbo function automatically increases suction on carpets for thorough cleaning of fibers. Cliff Detection The VR4050 is equipped with a height-sensing system to detect edges of stairs and risk zones. When a potential drop is detected, the robot stops and changes direction, protecting both the device and your floors. Room Recognition and Scheduled Cleaning RoomPlan 3.0 allows the robot to recognize each room automatically, saving time editing maps. Cleaning schedules can be set for individual rooms. You can also designate no-go zones or virtual walls. Once set, the robot will start at the scheduled time and clean according to the plan. Long Runtime with Auto-Resume The VR4050 is ideal for small apartments and large houses alike. Its 5200 mAh Li-Ion battery provides up to 270 minutes of operation. When battery falls below 15%, the robot automatically returns to the dock, charges, and resumes cleaning from where it left off. Smart Control via App and Voice Assistant Control the VR4050 through the free Concept Home app (iOS and Android), or via Amazon Alexa and Google Home for voice commands. The app allows full access to advanced functions, scheduling, and real-time tracking. Available languages: Czech, Slovak, English, Polish, Hungarian.
