Als Günter Henle seinen Urtextverlag im Jahre 1948 gründete, eröffnete er den Katalog mit der zweibändigen Ausgabe der 18 Klaviersonaten Mozarts (HN 1 und HN 2). Unverändert zählen diese Sonaten zum Kernrepertoire aller Pianisten. Beide Bände wurden im Laufe der Jahrzehnte mehrfach überarbeitet, so dass der G. Henle Verlag stets den Notentext auf dem aktuellen Stand der Forschung bietet. Die jüngste Aktualisierung betrifft KV 331 ("Alla turca", aus Band II) und stammt aus dem Jahr 2015. Vorwort und Kritischer Bericht der Herausgeber geben über alle Quellen und Textfragen ausführlich Auskunft. HN 1 und HN 2 enthalten Fingersätze. Immer wieder gelang es Chopin, Gattungen der Klaviermusik eine ganz individuelle Gestalt zu verleihen, seien es Etüden, Préludes, Walzer, Scherzi oder Nocturnes. Der Ire John Field hatte bereits über 20 Nocturnes komponiert, die vermutlich einen starken Einfluss auf Chopin ausübten. Their diversity of forms knows no bounds and the musical texture is infused with the most ingenious counterpoint, but at the same time performers will not miss out on the enjoyment of virtuosic playing in any way.G. The Skriabin specialist Valentina Rubcova from Moscow, the editor of these ten editions, studied all of the available sources for each work. Ysa˙e war davon so begeistert, dass er versprach: "Ich werde dieses Meisterwerk überall spielen, wo ich einen kunstsinnigen Pianisten finde". An der Beliebtheit des Werks hat sich bis heute nichts geändert, allerdings war es an der Zeit, die bisherige Henle-Ausgabe nach dem neuesten Stand der Forschung zu revidieren. Inzwischen lässt sich nämlich nachweisen, dass Franck aktiv bei der Lesung der Druckfahnen beteiligt war, so dass nunmehr die gegenüber dem Autograph mit zahlreichen Zusätzen versehene Erstausgabe als Basis für die Neu-Edition dient. Die Bezeichnung der Violinstimme stammt von Yehudi Menuhin - die geringfügigen Anpassungen an den revidierten Notentext übernahm Daniel Hope.

At the piano with Mendelssohn - everyone naturally thinks first of his wonderful Songs without Words, from which we have chosen a varied selection here. But there are other pieces in this volume that are no less fascinating, such as several of his enchanting children's pieces, which belong alongside Robert Schumann's Kinderszenen. In compositions such as the Prelude in f minor, we can also discern the love that Mendelssohn the German Romantic bore for the polyphony of J. S. Bach.

Wir legen mit unserer Urtextausgabe die Originalfassung für hohe Singstimme und Klavier vor und stützen uns dabei auf die autographen Quellen im Moskauer Glinka-Museum. Published in early 1806, Kreutzer's "40 Études ou Caprices" for violin - there are 42 today - are the product of his years-long employment at the Conservatoire de Paris and are the most comprehensive collection of studies from his quill. Their systematic and complete reappraisal of essential violin technique make them an indispensable tool of the trade for every serious student of the violin (conservatory level). In the intervening two centuries, numerous reprints by various publishers followed the Parisian first edition, frequently adapted by famous soloists and teachers. Just a few years after the first edition, Kreutzer published a complete revision of this standard work in which he exchanged or heavily altered etudes. This second version of the collection forms the basis for our Urtext edition, which nevertheless presents the variants from the early edition as well. The virtuoso and sought-after violin pedagogue Ingolf Turban acted as a consultant for this edition and furnished it with modern markings so that it provides an ideal foundation for contemporary violin instruction.

Brahms's First Violin Sonata in G major is also known by the sobriquet "Regenliedsonate" (Rain Sonata) because its final movement quotes melodic motifs from his two songs "Regenlied" and "Nachklang" (which likewise has rain as its subject). The dotted opening motif of the finale already pervades the first two movements, thereby contributing to the inner cohesion of this wonderfully expressive, elegiac work. Brahms's contemporaries enthusiastically received this sonata, which was completed in 1879. Elisabeth von Herzogenberg, a close friend of the composer, found that one has to "love it like little else in the world". The musical text of this revised Urtext edition is based on that of the newly completed volume of the New Brahms Complete Edition, which guarantees the highest degree of scholarly precision.
Lange vor seinem berühmten Mikrokosmos schuf Bartók 1908-1911 mit Für Kinder eine umfangreiche Sammlung kleiner Klaviersätze, die auf ungarische (Teil 1) und slowakische (Teil 2) Volksmelodien zurückgeht. Beide Teile bieten (in aufsteigendem Schwierigkeitsgrad) vom schlichten zweistimmigen Satz bis hin zu impressionistisch anmutenden Miniaturen alles, was Kinderhände greifen können. In den 1940er-Jahren überarbeitete der Komponist die Sammlung, wobei er nicht nur kleine musikalische Verbesserungen vornahm, sondern auch alle Sätze mit einem Titel versah. Diese revidierte Fassung bildet den Haupttext der Urtextausgabe, der Anhang bietet wesentlich abweichende Sätze der Frühfassung. Wie immer bei Henles Bartók-Ausgaben gibt es auch aufführungspraktische Hinweise und einen Einblick, wie der Komponist selbst die Stücke vortrug.
Sollte dieses kunstvoll komponierte Werk tatsächlich beim Kegelschieben entstanden sein? Die Legende hält sich hartnäckig, es gibt jedoch keine verbürgte Quelle dafür. Auffällig ist in jedem Fall die ungewöhnliche Besetzung: Eine Klarinette anstelle der Violine zu verwenden, war zwar durchaus üblich bei Klaviertrios; Mozart ersetzte aber außerdem das Violoncello durch die Viola, sein erklärtes Lieblingsinstrument. Die Bratsche erhielt folglich einen viel stärkeren Part als üblicherweise das Violoncello. Unsere Einzelausgabe dieses spielerisch-heiteren Werks wurde dem bereits vorliegenden Band mit sämtlichen Klaviertrios (HN 247) entnommen, der zum Jubiläumsjahr 2006 nach den neuesten Erkenntnissen der Mozart-Forschung revidiert wurde.?
