Published for her centenary, Elizabeth II is a brilliant new portrait of the late Queen, full of fresh revelations. From the Sunday Times Number 1 bestselling author of Charles III, it is the essential story of her life and record-breaking reign. Biographer and royal commentator Robert Hardman has had unique access to the world of the late Queen including family, staff, advisors and even the last state visitor of her record-breaking reign, President Donald Trump himself. As daughter, wife, mother and Sovereign, Elizabeth lived fascinating parallel lives, both in private and in public. But she remained something of a mystery beloved, even revered, modest yet daunting, naturally shy but globally recognizable, inscrutable and also authentic. She was grand but so familiar that we felt we knew her. Yet we would always be left asking the same question: Whats she really like? The only biographer to have interviewed all the senior members of the Royal Family, some of them several times, no one has written more authoritatively on Queen Elizabeth than Robert Hardman. Here he has crafted a gripping story of drama, devotion, triumph, tragedy, humour and conflict; of an outwardly stoical, inwardly complex woman whose love of family, love of country and duty to the Crown might pull her in different directions but never derailed her; a global stateswoman who wielded her great authority with charm and understatement. Elizabeth II will explain why she was not merely the most famous woman in the world. She was one of historys all-time greats. 'If you read one biography on Elizabeth II, this is the one . . . magnificent Simon Sebag Montefiore, author of The World: A Family History of Humanity Autorid: Robert Hardman

'Capitalism in contemporary Iran provides an original account of the modern Iran that rethinks its complex development and revolutionary ruptures through the wider dynamics of global capitalism and its geopolitical sinews. It is a must read for academics, students and political practitioners alike.'>'This is a powerful and highly original account of Iran's political economy. Unlike so much analysis and commentary on Iran, Valadbaygi carefully situates processes of domestic class formation and the country's deep social antagonisms within the development of the wider capitalist world market. It is a deeply insightful re-telling of Iran's history.'>'Valadbaygi delivers the most influential single book on the making of contemporary Iran and therefore the most valuable in helping us to understand the geopolitics of our times.'>'This book successfully situates Iran in the global history and historical sociology of capitalism. A must-read for anyone interested in Iran.'>This book traces the patterns of capital accumulation and the changes in class and state formation emanating from it in Iran during the global neoliberal era. It demonstrates how there are inner connections between the nature of contemporary development in Iran, the form of the state, the ongoing sociopolitical transformations in society and the geopolitical tensions with the West. Simultaneously, it highlights that these issues should be explored in terms of their internal relations to the motions and tendencies of neoliberal global capitalism and resulting geopolitics. Accordingly, the book demonstrates that Iranian neoliberalisation has brought about new contested class dynamics that have fundamentally reconstructed the Iranian ruling class, aggressively shaped and reshaped the working class and the poor, and drastically impacted the state form and its foreign policy.
Dedicated to Francisco de Zurbarán, one of the greatest painters of seventeenth-century Spain, this publication celebrates the drama and power of his distinctive body of work Francisco de Zurbarán is, alongside Diego Velázquez and Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, one of the three great painters of seventeenth-century Spain. His works are celebrated for their startling naturalism, directness, and deep emotional power. He spent most of his life in Seville, then one of the richest cities in Europe, whose maritime links to the Americas made it a hub of global trade. Although he painted mostly for the citys vast number of religious orders, he also worked for private patrons and the King of Spain, producing altarpieces and painting cycles of staggering scale and ingenuity. An acute observer of reality, his still-life paintings and works for private devotion still appear strikingly vivid today. Written by experts in the field and featuring exciting new discoveries, this beautifully illustrated publication will explore Zurbaráns most important commissions, portraits and domestic scenes, offering a fresh appraisal of this singularly gifted artist. Nicolas Notovitch was born into an aristocratic Jewish family, but converted to Christianity in his youth. A prolific journalist, author of twelve books (and some say, spy), he travelled widely in the east, visiting India, Afghanistan and Ladakh. After a riding accident that broke his leg, Notovitch recuperated at a Tibetan monastery in Hemis. Here, he heard of a manuscript that revealed astonishing information on the sixteen 'Lost Years of Jesus' - the period between Christ's visit to the Jerusalem Temple at the age of twelve and His baptism in the Jordan, about which the bible is strangely silent. The Tibetan manuscript relates that Jesus spent this time traveling to India and Tibet to study the spiritual disciplines of the East. He then returned via Persia to Israel, where He taught until eventual crucifixion. This account was published by Notovitch in 1887 as The Unknown Life of Jesus Christ. It caused an immediate sensation, stirring passions on both sides, shaking the foundations of orthodox Christianity, and raising a storm of controversy that, after more than 125 years, has not yet abated. An exciting, thought-provoking book, and essential reading for anyone interested in the life of the historical Jesus.
