Nominated for the Business Book Awards 'Embracing Change' category-----A ground-breaking exploration of how the digital era is revolutionising human trustIf you can't trust those in charge, who can you trust? From government to business, banks to media, trust in institutions is at an all-time low. But this isn't the age of distrust - far from it.In this revolutionary and widely praised book, world-renowned trust expert Rachel Botsman reveals that we are at the tipping point of one of the biggest social transformations in human history. We might have lost faith in institutions and leaders, but millions of people travel in cars with total strangers, exchange digital currencies, or find themselves trusting a bot. This is the age of "distributed trust", a paradigm shift driven by innovative technologies that are rewriting the rules of an all-too-human relationship. If we are to benefit from this radical shift, we must understand the mechanics of how trust is built, managed, lost and repaired in the digital age. In the first book to explain this new world, Botsman provides a detailed map of this uncharted landscape - and explores what's next for humanity.
This book is an introductory graduate-level textbook on the theory of smooth manifolds. Its goal is to familiarize students with the tools they will need in order to use manifolds in mathematical or scientific research smooth structures, tangent vectors and covectors, vector bundles, immersed and embedded submanifolds, tensors, differential forms, de Rham cohomology, vector fields, flows, foliations, Lie derivatives, Lie groups, Lie algebras, and more. The approach is as concrete as possible, with pictures and intuitive discussions of how one should think geometrically about the abstract concepts, while making full use of the powerful tools that modern mathematics has to offer.§This second edition has been extensively revised and clarified, and the topics have been substantially rearranged. The book now introduces the two most important analytic tools, the rank theorem and the fundamental theorem on flows, much earlier so that they can be used throughout the book. A few new topics have been added, notably Sard s theorem and transversality, a proof that infinitesimal Lie group actions generate global group actions, a more thorough study of first-order partial differential equations, a brief treatment of degree theory for smooth maps between compact manifolds, and an introduction to contact structures.§Prerequisites include a solid acquaintance with general topology, the fundamental group, and covering spaces, as well as basic undergraduate linear algebra and real analysis.
Settling down for a 24-hour flight to Australia, Lucy finds a text message on her phone - not from her boyfriend James, as she fondly hopes, but from a woman claiming to have slept with him four times in the past month. Trapped on the plane, she questions everything about her relationship with James. She finally calls him and he reassures her: it was only his mates playing a silly joke. James is a lawyer, persuasive and gorgeous and Lucy adores him. So why, at the wedding in Sydney of her best friend Molly, does she have niggling doubts, and find herself attracted to Molly's brother-in-law Nathan? The sooner she gets back to her regular life in London, the flat she shares with James, her job in PR, the better. Nathan is a happy-go-lucky surfer boy, with no prospects, no place to live, an almost-girlfriend in tow. And the other side of the world...Lucy - a girl caught between two distant continents - and two very different men...
The Scottish Wars of Independence are often celebrated for the heroic deeds of men, but behind the scenes, noblewomen played an equally pivotal role in shaping the nations fate. In Women in the Scottish Wars of Independence, Beth Reid brings to life the stories of these remarkable women, from royalty to influential landowners, whose contributions to Scotlands turbulent history have long been overlooked. From noblewomen like Isabella MacDuff, Agnes Randolph, and Agnes Comynwho made kings, defended castles, and led conspiraciesto royal women who influenced key decisions and defined dynasties, this book paints a vivid picture of resilience, strategy, and courage. Through chronicles, royal charters, and material culture, Reid uncovers how these women navigated war and politics, revealing their critical yet underappreciated roles in shaping the outcomes of the Wars of Independence.Focusing on noblewomen rather than ordinary lives, this book offers a fresh perspective on a male-dominated narrative, shedding light on the influential partnerships and actions of women who stood at the heart of Scotland's history. With meticulous research and compelling storytelling, Women in the Scottish Wars of Independence is essential reading for history enthusiasts eager to explore the often-untold contributions of Scotlands noblewomen during one of its most formative periods. The Scottish Wars of Independence are often celebrated for the heroic deeds of men, but behind the scenes, noblewomen played an equally pivotal role in shaping the nations fate. Autorid: Beth Reid

The Alphacool Eisblock XPX 1U is the Enterprise Solutions version of the well-known and popular Eisblock XPX CPU water cooler. It has been specially optimized for use in 1U server racks and has extended connection options. This allows for more connection options in the very tight 1U server racks and integrate it easily into a cooling loop. Many Connection Options Thanks to its extremely flat design, the Eisblock XPX 1U fits into any 1U server case. Due to the flat design of a 1U server rack, no inlets or outlets can be used on top of the CPU cooler as the total height of the CPU cooler including the fittings would no longer fit. Therefore, the Eisblock XPX 1U has further connection possibilities on the side of the cooler. There are altogether 3 x IN and 4 x OUT, with 2 x In and 3 x OUT mounted on the side. Straight fittings up to a size of 13/10 mm can be connected at the side. The Alphacool TPV connectors, which were specially developed for the Enterprise Solutions series, are ideal. Larger fittings can be used, but only in specific circumstances with angled adapters. The fittings on top of the CPU cooler can of course be used as usual with all connections up to a size of 16 mm outside diameter, no matter whether for soft tube or HardTubes. High Performance The Eisblock XPX has been called the most powerful CPU water cooler by many independent media. This also applies to the Eisblock XPX 1U as it contains the same technology. The only slight change is to the patented ramp system for optimal waterflow. This has been adapted to allow the new lateral connections. The base plate offers 81 cooling fins covering an area of 34 x 32 mm. The fins are only 0.2 mm thick. This allows for the largest possible area for heat dissipation through the water. Simple Assembly The backplate is attached to the mainboard from behind. Then the mounting frame and the mounting screws (which can be pre-assembled seperately) are attached directly on the CPU block. Then it is a simple job of screwing the CPU block and mounting frame to the backplate. Mounting material for all mainstream sockets from AMD and Intel is included. We do not include the mounting materials for some Intel Xeon sockets and the AMD Threadripper as we recommend the Eisblock XPX Pro series for these. The pro series offers adapted mounting material and an enlarged cooling surface for these oversized processors.
