"From translator Saskia Vogel and one of Sweden's most loved authors, an essayistic memoir about women and food. Bread and Milk traces a life through food, from carefully restricted low-fat margarine to a bag of tangerines devoured in one sitting to the luxury of a grandmother's rice pudding. In this radiant memoir from one of Northern Europe's most notable literary stylists, we follow several generations of women and their daughters as they struggle with financial and emotional vulnerability, independence, and motherhood. When Karolina finds herself a single mother to a young daughter of her own, food becomes the way for her to show her love, but also to instill a fraught and complicated inheritance. The result is a lush, meditative memoir about the connections we make between food and love: how a mother's emotional absence is filled by the food she painstakingly provides, how a missing father's approval is granted for tomatoes sliced just right. Bread and Milk is at once wholly original and a natural extension of the brazenly intelligent and personal writing that has come to define Karolina Ramqvist's authorship. After all, what we eat is inexorably intertwined with how we love."--
The skateboard decks documented in this special collection are immaculately photographed and laid-out for maximum graphic glory. In "The Bible", the visuals take center stage, but the fascinating vignettes and recollections provided by an A-list of skateboarding personalities from Tony Hawk to Mike Vallely, Mark Gonzales to Stacy Peralta bring context to the aesthetic mayhem. The board graphics within The Disposable Skateboard Bible are broken down by decade: (beginning in 1960) documenting some of the earliest deck designs; through the 70s and the game-changing advent of urethane wheels; the 80s with its ups and downs, big decks and mass-market popularity; finally, the graphic chaos of the 90s through the turn of the millennium. This book is a blue chip, must-have reference for any graphics library.
Product Description As the first person to translate the entire 23-volume Zohar from Aramaic into English, Michael Berg is uniquely qualified to convey its timeless wisdom to a wider audience. In these pages, he reveals its secrets as never before. Berg deciphers the encoded words of the ancient sages and explains and organizes them in a way that anyone can comprehend. He interprets the Zohar's most important stories, offering a special meditation for each one. Most importantly, he presents the wisdom from this great book in both Aramaic and English since, according to Kabbalah s greatest sages, The Light of the Creator is embodied in the Zohar s very letters and words, and scanning it in the original language is as important as reading the translation. This unique presentation allows readers to draw on the Zohar s full energy, empowering them to achieve true spiritual transformation, conquer life s greatest challenges, and find new joy and fulfilment. About the Author Michael Berg is the co-director of The Kabbalah Centre and Kabbalah University, as well as an author, scholar and teacher. He is the editor and translator of the first-ever unabridged contemporary English translation of the 23 volume Zohar and commentary, the ancient Aramaic text that is at the very core of kabbalistic thought. Having been born into a kabbalistic tradition as the son of the Rav and Karen Berg, Michael steeped himself in the wisdom of the Zohar at a young age, beginning its translation when he was only 18 years old and completing it ten years later. Adept at combing through ancient materials and distilling complex information into elegant thought and language, Michael continues the tradition started by Rav Berg, of condensing and simplifying the profound wisdom of Kabbalah. As a best-selling author he has developed a worldwide following with more than eight books, such as Becoming Like God, Well of Life, The Secret, and national bestseller The Way. His recent projects include compiling, editing, and publishing Rav Ashlag s pillar works: The Wisdom of Truth, And You Shall Choose Life, On World Peace, The Thought of Creation, and The Light of Wisdom. Michael Berg also translated and edited Beloved of My Soul, Rav Brandwein s written correspondence to Rav Berg. This book presents rare teachings through which the mantle of leadership of the Centre was transferred. Michael currently lives in New York with his wife Monica and children, David, Miriam, Joshua, and Abigail, and lectures all around the world.

This book started out as a "Manual. " The idea was to offer straightforward instruction on how to handle patients in whom renal function is altered by intrinsic as well as systemic or extrarenal disease. While we have attempted to provide simple approaches to most conditions, we have gone beyond that and offer here more detailed description of pathophysiology, diagnosis and therapy. Thus, the "Manual" has become a Handbook. In so doing we hope we have widened the audience for which the book may be useful. As it now stands, we envision that students, house staff, nephrology trainees, nephrologists, primary-care physicians, and nurses of specialized units, interested in kidney-related disturbances and in alterations of the composi tion of the extracellular fluid, will benefit from reading the Handbook. While providing a rational background for the treatments outlined, each author has attempted to narrate the reasons why such therapy is utilized. Frequently, the information is provided in tables and figures to which ready reference can be made. The flow-chart approach has also been utilized to illustrate pathophysiological sequence or steps in therapy. In most instances, the discussion of pathophysiology has been limited to what is widely ac cepted rather than treading into anything controversial, unless the nature of the problem or the nature of our knowledge is ambiguous.
Militant Acts presents a broad history of the concept and practice of investigations in radical political struggles from the nineteenth century to the present. Radicals launched investigations into the conditions and struggles of the oppressed and exploited to stimulate their political mobilization and organization. These investigations assumed a variety of methodological forms in a wide range of geographical and institutional contexts, and they also drew support from the participation of intellectuals such as Marx, Lenin, Mao, Dunayevskaya, Foucault, and Badiou. Marcelo Hoffman analyzes newspapers, pamphlets, reports, and other source materials, which reveal the diverse histories, underappreciated difficulties, and theoretical import of investigations in radical political struggles. In so doing, he challenges readers to rethink the supposed failure of these investigations and concludes that the value of investigations in radical political struggles ultimately resides in the possibility of producing a new political we. Offers a history of the role of investigations in radical political struggles from the nineteenth century forward. Autorid: Marcelo Hoffman
