Is it possible that we have left Christ out of Christianity? Is the faith and practice of American Christians today more American than Christian? These are the provocative questions Michael Horton addresses in this well-received, insightful book. He argues that while we invoke the name of Christ, too often Christ and the Christ-centered gospel are pushed aside. The result is a message and a faith that are, in Horton's words, "trivial, sentimental, affirming, and irrelevant." This alternative "gospel" is a message of moralism, personal comfort, self-help, self-improvement, and individualistic religion. It trivializes God, making him a means to our selfish ends. Horton skillfully diagnoses the problem and points to the solution: a return to the unadulterated gospel of salvation. Now available in trade paper. This inspired challenge to contemporary American Christianity calls the church to return to its biblical foundation. Now in paper. Autorid: Michael Horton
A pastoral guide to dealing wisely with domestic abuse in the local church. This book is intended to equip pastors, church leaders and church members to respond with the heart of God to situations of domestic abuse that occur in their local church. Prioritising the safety of the victim at all times, Jeremy Pierre and Greg Wilson seek to help you be the kind of church leader, church member, friend, parent, sibling, or neighbour who responds wisely. We want the church to be a new normal for those grown accustomed to abuse. A home that doesnt hurt those inside, but instead welcomes them into the tender care of the Lord. Split into three sections, When Home Hurts begins with an overview to provide a framework for understanding abuse and the people caught up in it, before moving on to advice on how to help in the short and long terms. This very practical, pastoral book acknowledges the reality and the horror of domestic abuse, but also the reality and power of God to heal. It will be a helpful guide to anyone who suspects abuse within their church family but is unsure how to help without making things worse. The five appendices at the end of the book offer helpful answers to difficult questions as well as additional resources. Section 1 How to Understand Abuse Understanding Your Role as Agent of Gods Love Understanding Abuse Dynamics Discerning Abuse Dynamics Section 2 How to Help in the Short Term Caring for the Victim Confronting the Abuser Considering Collateral Damage Section 3 How to Help in the Long Term Helping the Move from Victim to Overcomer Helping the Move from Abuser to Servant Leading Your Church to Respond with Wisdom and Compassion Additional Resources: Appendix A FAQs in the Initial Stages Appendix B FAQs on Separation, Divorce, and Reunification After Abuse Appendix C The Authority of Scripture and Abuse Research Appendix D Resources Appendix E Care Advocate Role Description Autorid: Jeremy Pierre, Greg Wilson

From the 2nd century CE to the 19th century, the people of the fertile estuary of the great Mekong River created treasures of sacred art, architecture and accomplished feats of water engineering that are coming to light in Vietnams vigorous new archaeological research programmes. The large stilted wooden houses of Oc Eo, the early Venice of the maritime routes of the East in the earliest centuries of the first millennium, drew in ships with precious cargoes from Rome, India and China to trade while waiting for the change of the monsoon wind to continue their voyages. Chinese annals record that the early polity they called 'Funan' ruled 1,000 km of coastline along the shipping route. Among the earliest Mekong Delta Buddhist icons are a breathtakingly elegant 2.7m tall Buddha carved in hardwood that has survived more than 1000 years in the delta mud and a 29cm bronze Buddha that arrived on a trading ship from the 6th century Chinese Northern Qi dynasty. Very early Vishnu statues wear high, floral mitres and clasp war conch-trumpets on their left hip, and Shiva's face stares out from stone lingas. The Ho Chi Minh Museum collection conserves diverse masterpieces of the art from Vietnam, from the prehistoric Dong Son drums of the Red River Delta in the north to the vibrant Hindu and Buddhist statuary of the former kingdoms of Champa in Central Vietnam. In addition, there is an immense array of art and imperial furnishings of the last Vietnamese dynasty, the Nguyen, which was founded in the Mekong Delta at the beginning of the 19th century. There are refined inlaid wooden cabinets, sets of the finest blue and white ceramics and embroidered silken court costumes worn by the royal family, as well as huge wooden and ceramic Buddha statues which played crucial social and political roles in establishing the dynasty and quelling its foes. Fate does not give up on people. We are the decision-makers, the ones who shape our own fate. As one looks back, they may notice experiences where they do things they thought they would never do, put up with things they said they would never tolerate, or even fall in love with someone they thought they would never love. We might have been in situations where we thought we could not leave, but instead were able to walk away from; we might have days we felt like dying but still lived through. With every challenge overcome, we come closer to understanding our inner self. A sufi went on a seven-day long journey with a young girl in order to help her find her life purpose. They did not bring anything but their faith in God with them. In this journey, they met amazing encounters and extraordinary events that helped them see every decision they made in a different light. How would a seven-day long journey influence a personIs it possible to change fateThe answer is of course. Everything changes as time goes by; seven days may seem short but in fact it could bring huge influence on someone.Hakan Mengüc is known for being a writer, a virtuoso and a public speaker.
